He was 120 points better than anyone else in OPS.

The stat i just posted on the last page kinda confirms that OBP and SLG dont necessarily go hand in hand like Giraffe is suggesting, at least on a team scale.
Using the top 10 players to measure it doesn't give you the overall picture. Yeah, the top 10 players in any category are probably really good at most categories, especially the top 10 in OBP.

And actually won the SLG cat.

By a pube-hair.
Which is surprising, I would have thought my team would be better overall with OBP, but I had some duds in week 1.

I was talking about those stats going hand and hand with ops, not each other
Take the top 10 teams in SLG
Top 10 in OBP
Top 10 in ops
The top 10 basically features the same teams. Ops just throws it into one measure to simplify scoring, for me
Take Matt carp
Great at OBP, not gonna kill you in SLG. Both cats are still accounted for. Ok that's valuable enough
But
Isn't that same type of value reflected in a career ops of 800+?
Carpenter is the same player in both formats to me. All players are, really. If you're good in one cat and bad in the other, you're worthless in either format. If you're pretty good in both, you're golden. If you're really good in one and ok in another, you're good.
I'm not trying to be combative here, don't take my intentions wrong. Just talking it out and I want to hear both sides
Posted on 4/13/15 at 2:25 pm to GynoSandberg
It seems like you are suggesting that we don't need both categories, because if you are good in one, you will be good in the other.
I just proved that winning one cat doesnt guarantee a victory in the other. That's all I'm saying.

No, I'm saying if you're team is good in OBP or SLG or both, you would be good in OPS.
You don't need both cats when 1 does the trick.
The player value doesn't change when you're counting opb/SLG or ops. Just go down the list of players, no one's value changes

Mookie just stole 2 bases on 1 pitch
Eta: then robbed Harper of a HR
Etaa: and then he hits a 3r hr
Off of one of my SPs

OK, we are commenting on two different aspects. I like having six scoring categories. It's different. splitting those two up into two separate categories is fine, IMO. They aren't one in the same.

frick a Mookie Betts... but I'm glad JZ is getting rocked.

Yeah, looks like I'm going all out for IP this week.
Posted on 4/13/15 at 3:29 pm to OneMoreTime
I can probably go for IP as well, without worrying much about ERA and WHIP.
Posted on 4/13/15 at 3:32 pm to reddman
I dont mind the 6. I just wish it were OPS and something else. It's just repetitive.

Its like you totally ignored my post about how only half the teams swept both categories last week.
