The last few years, the excuse was because of 1st round draft pick compensation when signing free agents. So, no, it isnt strictly because of Covid. It is ridiculous to have cy young contenders and other impact players still unsigned in January. I believe the current bargaining agreement ends at the end of 2021, so hopefully they can do something to correct the issue. They need to fix this shite and any language that allows teams to keep their best prospects down in the minors instead of callups. I thought the last covid shortened seasons kinda sucked overall, but it was fun watching all of the teams bring their young guys up. It was good for baseball.
