FF Auction Draft Strategies

What strategies do you use in auction drafts?

I'd like to hear some thoughts on this as well. In my first auction league this year and really no clue what if any strategy there is.

this will be the third year we will have done one. Each year that we have, the league has way more competitive. I finished in 5th place last year but lead the league in scoring.
- don't drive up the price on a player you have absolutely no interest in getting. I did this with Knowshon Moreno last year and it backfired. PA- POW!!!
- if this should happen to you, I guess you could always trade him but that wasn't the case with Moreno, I just got laughed at
- players are usually nominated in a random order in our league. And some good players get lost in the shuffle for whatever reason. I ended up getting Aaron Hernandez for $5 and he was the 113th player nominated at the time. Helluva a bargain if you ask me. Some guy took Owen Daniels a few spots before that for $13.

I just have a feeling that some of the better players will go for more than their value and others will go for less. Is that how it goes or do players go for what their "value" is?

yeah, that is usually how it works. I went back and looked at the draft results from the past few years and they weren't very consistent on the prices.
It probably wouldn't hurt to try a few mocks. Those get old pretty quick though IMO.

sure, why not? let everyone else get who they want and you can just wait on good depth.
it doesn't have to be that way though. You can get who ever you want. Just don't sit around and only wait for bargains, they will happen no matter what. Always nab a few studs then wait and see what happens.

I've been in a dynasty auction league for five years now and it is by far the best league setup. My strategy is to know before the draft what I am willing to spend for each position and player. I am always involved in bidding for players. I don't like to show my hand by only getting involved in players I want. Also you never know if you bid on a guy and get a steal. Also if you can keep track of what other people are spending you will know where they stand as far as meeting their salary cap. It is a good thought but once you start drinking it is hard to keep up
