I voted yes. I think there are very reasonable arguments for voting no.
Honestly, it's tough. I'd prefer if it weren't an amendment so it could be easily changed back.
But the fact that teachers are against something is often a good sign that I want to be on the opposite side. It impacts shitty school districts where the concept of local control pulling schools out of tailspins is laughable.
I don't think it'll pass, which made me a little less apprehensive about voting for it.

Well the current conditions in the schools that would be targeted is a complete taxpayer money waste so....
This. If the local governing bodies have let the schools continue a downward spiral and either done nothing, or have done everything they can with no success, why should they be allowed to continue to run the schools?

Voted yes. Any attempt at improving failing public schools is better than accepting the poor returns that liberal policies backed by the teachers unions and NAACP want to keep as the status quo.

It's a tough one. It would likely help some of the pathetic schools where it's a fricking shame nobody in the community and local government/school boards seem to give a shite and are pissing away money.
You've obviously never worked in one of these schools. You will NEVER get these schools changed. The parents are dead beats and the kids reflect this. The children in these schools are very disruptive during the class sessions. They can't help it, it's what they see at home. Some of these kids have NO chance, their stories would break your heart.
Add to that, the federal gov't dictating ridiculous rules for schools and this is what you get. Wish it were different but having some outside company come in a dictate even more rules is a loser!!

Voted yes, and my wife is a teacher.
Wife is too. She told me she didn't give a shite what else I marked on my ballot, but there better be a no next to amendment 1.
You're the first person I've come across whose teacher wife wanted it to pass.

Spend more tax money and in the end things will be the same.

I'm voting yes on tsplost because it is a gwinnett county tax, and being in Sugar Hill, I see the money at work with the widening of 20 and all the other road improvements they are making.

It is systematically impossible to improve these districts. Sure one or two schools might improve, but the district as a whole will not improve on a grand scale. It's the parents, home life, SES levels. No matter how much money you pump in, no matter how many charter schools you open. It will not matter. The absolute worst thing for a schools is having the government involved. Charter schools are a legal way of stealing money. Sure some charter schools will outperform traditional public schools, but the majority do not. In reality what do you expect the charter schools take the best and leave the rest. Most charter schools play by a different set of rules and some private organization is getting a fat wallet. Almost ALL school districts that have been taken over by the state and converted to charter schools have failed. The Walton Foundation is a huge backer of state take overs and charter schools. They are looking to fill their pockets and insure a never ending supply of cashiers at Walmart.

We have this in Louisiana, vote no!
They take over schools, but they don't take the attendance zone. Failing kids just move to a different school and those schools fail and the cycle repeats. Meanwhile the state holds the local tax payers' facilities and they let some company come in and use it for a charter school that fails at an unbelievably high rate since they get selective enrollment. By the time the local school board gets the facility back, it needs massive repairs (in the millions) due to neglect.

It's helpful when the county you live in recognizes you exist.
In Fulton, nothing exists above downtown too often

Pretty much how I saw it playing out. Heavy government intervention only wrecks shite.

Fulton TSPLOST is split between unincorporated (North and South Fulton) and CoA. Money is collected/stays in their respective areas.

We don't have charters here in Kentucky, but the state can take over struggling schools. And almost every one of their intervention "options" have been shite.
You can shuffle kids around, change staff, change methods, but if you can't acknowledge the population you're dealing with and realistic expectations for those students then it's a worthless referendum.
