Kamara's contract isn't what it seems.

In fact, it's much closer to what many expected.
Not all the numbers are out, but enough to piece things together.
First is that only about $18 mil is fully guaranteed. So the other $16 mil is only currently guaranteed for injury. This is a good bit less than the $30 mil fully guaranteed McCaffrey got.
Of that $18 mil, $15 mil is signing bonus which can be spread a max of 5 years. It seems they wanted it to start counting this year so that 2025 would have no dead money (currently; they may adjust things later). The rest is his salary for this year (about $1 mil) and next year ($2 mil).
And the $25 mil in 2025 is completely for vanity's sake. He will never earn that as he'll be reworked or cut well before.
So this really breaks down to a 5 year, roughly $52 mil deal if you count this year, or a 4 year, $48 mil deal if not.
So in truth he is making either about $10-12 mil depending on if you count this year or not.

As long as CSP, Loomis, & Ireland are here...we should be a legit contender for a long time.
It all starts with those 3, & Dennis Allen is easily the best DC we've had under CSP. I can't see us falling off any time soon with the current leadership at the top.
CSP - Head coach, offensive coaching, play calling, & I trust him with drafting offensive players
Loomis - Contracts & money
Ireland - Offensive & defensive scouting
Allen - Defensive coaching
Those 4 cover every aspect besides special teams, & Rizzi is a damn good ST coach.

McCaffrey also has a bit of bluster in his contract. Similar to Kamara, his final year has no guarantees, but is only about half as much ($12.2 mil)
So he's really making $13 mil per counting this year, or $14.5 mil per if not.
In comparison, if they both play unaltered up to (but not counting) the final year, Kamara will make about $52 mil vs. McCaffrey's roughly $66 mil.
Lookings at Cook's numbers, he falls in between Kamara's at about $10.25-11.75 depending on if you count this year or not. He also has the false year on the end at $13.5 mil. He would make about $51.5 mil not counting the final year.
So Kamara and Cook have near identical contracts.
So he's really making $13 mil per counting this year, or $14.5 mil per if not.

Most fans have no clue how any of this works no matter how many times i post it. I’m no GM but the cap isn’t some crazy thing to understand. Random fans just see the total of a contract then decide to just freak out. It’s all about the guarantees and how it’s structured. When i saw the guaranteed money i knew we got a good deal like you mentioned. If it is structured the way you showed (i just haven’t seen it yet) then it’s a hell of a deal and the saints can trade away or get out from under that contract if and when need be

Yeah OTC had us right about $8 mil under, so I imagine we'll be able to carry a good bit to next year.

Good news is we can get under by potentially up to $20 mil with a shite ton of restructures, extending Ram and Latt (which actually needs to happen to lower their hits) and a couple of cuts (and then add on whatever we carry over).
It'll put more stress on the 2022 and 2023 caps, but we are way under both currently anyway.
So it'll just be a question of if we want to keep M. Williams, Anzalone, Rankins, and/or Hendrickson, and if we want to sign outside players.

Yeah, extension for Ram and Latt, restructure for Peat, armstead (or possible cut/trade), Thomas, and Jordan. Easton and Brown (possible) cut. They may have to do something with Jenkins (maybe an extension) but he could be cut too. These moves get them under or damn near close to it. Makes it tighter in 22 but by that time drew is off the books so you can afford the rest

He deals with the fine points of the contracts. Also involved in negotiations to a degree from what I gather.
I think Loomis takes the broad view and Harley fits things into that however needs be.
