-U.S. population is around 330 million
-Blacks make up around 13% of overall population
-Around 40 million traffic tickets are written a year

Therefore, if blacks are ticketed proportionally to their share of the population, they account for approximately 5,200,000 tickets received. That is 5,200,000 traffic stops or 5,200,000 possible encounters. If you consider stops where no tickets are given, profiling stops, etc... the number of police encounters goes through the roof. We hear about or see a video of a police shooting about 5-10 times per year. Most of the time it involves someone struggling or fighting with the police.

I would suggest that 99.99% of black people know EXACTLY how to deal with the police. We keep seeing videos of the .01% (or less) that want to act like fools and disobey and fight with the police. This isn't the norm despite the media attention given it.

My brother is HPD in Houston. Most of the 911 calls in Houston come from predominantly black areas of Houston. Most black people appreciate and understand a need for the police. Don't believe for a second that the handful of police haters that make the news speak for the entire black population because they don't.

It's been a few years but I have ridden at night with HPD and understand what they deal with to some degree. It is scary sometimes. Things can turn unexpectedly nasty in a flash. Disobeying and fighting with the police has a bunch of possible outcomes and none of them are very good.

Finally... stick your racist comments up your arse. Not interested in hearing about your one off encounter.

I'm 1000% in support of cops, but HPD are 99% scumbags. And this is coming from a guy with family in HPD.

Do they still offer the ride-a-longs? Wouldn't mind doing that one time either.

Do you know what the actual number was last year? Seriously

No idea. A lot more than 5.2 million.

And how many contacts are some of these people having with police before they get shot? If you use Sterling as an example, he had around 30 arrests and an unknown amount of contact prior to being shot, so you could guess 50 contacts on a low side before he decided he wanted to get combative with police. Whereas the white kid in Alabama (sad we can't remember his name because of almost zero coverage) may have been his first contact with police where he was shot while unarmed.

Media and the liberal share and promote the same narrative. U.S. is bad, police are bad, republicans hate, conservatives are racist, conservatives are anti-LGBT, etc.. etc...

How many “one off encounters” does it take to become data?

How does this work IRL? Is it like the card you have in your wallet where you buy 10 get 1 free.....asking for a friend

Most of these “routine traffic stops” follow a familiar pattern:

Police pull over car for routine reason (busted tail light, speeding, suspicion of DUI, expired inspection sticker, etc)

Driver has outstanding warrant

Driver is combative because they know that if the officer runs the name through the system, they’re goi g to jail.

Driver refuses to comply and either attempts to flee the scene or attack the officer.

Officer reacts and kills driver.

If they didn’t have outstanding warrants and fight the police they would not get shot.

No shot I'm riding with a cop. They have giant targets on their backs.

Just saying, the police aren't going around hunting black men like some would have you believe. They live a criminal lifestyle and yet they aren't killed automatically by police.

How are cops profiling blacks and why do you think they are?

I would bet money that this is the reason for most police/hostile reaction encounters.

An innocent guy getting pulled over for running a stop light knows nothing is going to happen except get a ticket - or perhaps by acting nice he only gets a warning.

On the other hand, the guy with a warrant for a felony does not want to have to face the judicial system he has already evaded. He may well take that chance to bluff the police to letting him escape - one more time.

I say bullshite on that - if they get hostile during the arrest, assume the WORST about the guy and act accordingly.

As a white man, should I be afraid when a black, female officer pulls me over?

Profiling isn't the problem.
