.308 marlin question

hornady is NOT going to be able to supply the public with this ammo in the near future because of the continuing ammo supply chain problems. this is the word from hornady. bro-in-law bought a rifle that shoots this and is dying to hunt with it this year. he has access to dies but bullets and brass are hard to come by. anyone on the ob have any suggestions or resources they can offer?
its a sweet shooting round that offers a fast follow-up shot being leaver-action (hogs). seems a darn shame to have to leave it on the bench for the foreseable future.

Its a shame those calibers didn't catch on. I wanted a .338 marlin for a while and I'm glad I didn't get one now.

Get a BLR in .300 Win Mag and then you'll have an obsolete rifle that's 500yd capable...

He's going to have to do some driving or hump the hell out of Google to find some. He should just get what's available now and get some trigger time.

Plus, buying the Rem will get him some much needed brass, one step closer to hand loading. I'm starting to see some commonly used 30 caliber hunting bullets starting to show up, as well. The big problem for handloaders is the ongoing non availability of powders...

Mack,
I've been rethinking your buddy's dilemma. When the 308 ME first came out I remember thinking it'd prolly not survive long... I also thought it sounded quite similar to the 307 Win, a round developed to safely provide near 308 Win performance in a new (modified) version of the Model Win 94.
If your buddy can't find ammo or brass for the ME, it appears as if the brass can be formed from the 307 Win or the 444 Marlin. Here are some links to get him started if he's interested.

Of course, he may still have problem finding 307 Win or 444 Marlin brass. I believe the Hornady 308 caliber Flex Tip bullets are sold to handloaders as well, but who knows the availability.
I wish your friend the best of luck. Not many things in life are more frustrating than having a gun but not being able to shoot it because of no ammo....
