USA Today - Then we have a huge fish out there that has been linked to the LSU coaching gig, Lincoln Riley. Riley is viewed in a similar way to that of Billy Napier, now before you roll your eyes hear me out. For years teams have tried to coax Riley out of Norman in the same way as Napier, the difference is most of the time it has been at the NFL level. Teams have wanted Riley, NFL teams have even consulted with him on his offense.

“His” offense has been around for decades.

Sean P -among other pro coaches -has attended Hal Mumme’s clinics.

honestly, this is my biggest concern with Riley... him finding success here, then NFL teams REALLY come calling, and then we are left in a similar situation as we were with Saban...

i'm praying that if it is Riley, he's here for the long haul, and isn't looking to go the NFL in the next few years

I guess you can look at it like if he has great successs and does leave, maybe we can have a really great foundation in place and won’t botch the next hire?

With the success The Cards are having, it wouldn’t be long before teams come calling

Saban was the first one I thought of when reading this.

Part of the reason why I’m not totally sold on Riley. He will be lured to the NFL at some point as the money offers become impossible to ignore

I’ve always thought this kind of thinking is weak. If NFL teams are knocking that means we have a very good coach. Nothing lasts forever.

True, and from what it sounds like, we are offering him enough money to make even NFL teams hesitate to outbid us. It may well take a few years for the rest of the coaching market to catch up to what we're paying to get to the point where NFL teams are willing to outbid us for his services.

I've wondered why Woody would put a guy in place if the guy had clear NFL aspirations and the potential to be hired to the league. SW is doing a program scrape and rebuild and just don't see him hiring a guy everyone assumes could and would leave if the right owner called him up any given year.
