Does anyone know how to change the value of a vehicle with the DMV? I am paying the registration on a 09 car. The original purchase price is listed as the SPOV.

SPOV stands for Selling Price of Vehicle?

Why wouldnt that be the original purchase price? Why are you trying to commit fraud?

Supposed price. I am paying based on the original sale price of $40k in 2009.

Yup. In Louisiana, the fee for passenger vehicles is based on the original selling price when registered. It's NOT based on the current FMV of the vehicle. The minimum is $10,000.

So you are paying your fee based on 40K, but if you sold your car for $5K to your neighbor, then your neighbor would pay fee, on the same exact car, based on 10K.

It's stupid. But that's how it works here.

Sell the vehicle to someone else at the current market value and then buy it back?

You may be doing a bunch of work for very little return.

I think the value is adjusted for age by the DMV. I do know that Louisiana does not charge particularly onerous automobile registration fees relative to other states.

If you have a personalized tag or a specialty tag on your car it cost more because these plates go on value of the car.

I had my personalized tag on a 15 year old car it was 60 bucks every 2 years. moved t my current jeep it was 125 for 2 years. crazy.

Can we get this put on all the signs when entering the state?
