Tio Javi’s in Baton Rouge

What is the story behind Ninfas becoming Tio Javi’s in Baton Rouge? Ninfas was my favorite spot to meet my parents when they came in town during my college years. I would kill the queso in the tortillas tossed in the pan tableside.
I went to Tio Javi’s the other night while in Baton Rouge and it was garbage. The bartender claimed Tio was the old manager and bought out Ninfas? Anyone know the story behind this? I would post to the food board but I feel like the OT might have better gossip on it.

I suspect it has to do with Ninfas not offering as much support and going through a bankruptcy/restructuring in Tejas.
Also, I've been and it seems the same to me. Not sure what made it garbage. They still have pretty much all the same dishes and still hand-make the tortillas.

Ninfas went way down hill the 5 years up to it changing. Now it seems similar but still nothing like it was in the 90s early 2000s.

There’s a Ninfa’s in Waco and it’s just as good if not better than any of the older ones.

The Ninfas on Navigation is pretty much the only one that has the same quality at this point.

Some years back, the manager of Ninfas left & opened Zippy's. Ninfa's service & quality was never the same.

Yea I don't go often but my gf does and still gets the same shite she's been getting for 15 years. And yes it's still good.
Here's the backstory.
WAFB Name Change from Ninfas to Javi's was part of re-branding

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A Baton Rouge Mexican restaurant is changing its logo, and needs the public's help deciding on the new look.
Ninfa's Mexican Restaurant is being rebranded as Tio Javi's Fresh-Mex Bar and Grill at the end of September. The name change pays homage to current restaurant general manager Javier Pallais, who started working at the business in 2010.
"I didn't know they were going to do this," says Pallais. "I was definitely shocked."
The menu, drinks, staff, and managers will remain the same. Pallais says the changes are a way for the restaurant to forge its own brand.
225 Magazine article about sale of Javi's to Bachman
quote:
Regular patrons of Tio Javi’s on Constitution Avenue may have noticed some changes recently. That’s because Tio Javi’s has been under new ownership since November, when the owner of the nearby Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Chris Bachman, acquired the business and the property from the family of the late T.J. Moran.
According to documents filed with the East Baton Rouge Parish Clerk of Court, Bachman’s Limit Out Properties, LLC acquired the property for $1.4 million from the Moran family’s Bekmet Ltd. on Nov. 1.

I ate there in Winter of 2000. It was good if I recall.
