With NIL, how much guaranteed sponsorship money will it take to land the elite players?

I know the players are supposed to get their own sponsorship deals, but the reality is the major players are going to have to have sponsorship deals in place in order to land the elite players. I'm not saying it's right, but it is the reality of the situation!

I'm thinking at least $500,000 for a 5-star, top 10 player in the country.

the market will determine a players value over time, its new so stuff is going to be all over the place. give it 3 years and it will be practically slot value for a lot of guys based on certain criteria

Though I do think it may take more than 3 years for the market to become that efficient. I only say that because you will have to have a few years of consistently overpaying and consistently underpaying by certain teams for market corrections.

I truly think this could be a big change for NCAAF landscape. There are schools with business and alumni bases that are waaaayy richer than in the southeast conference. I think immediate changes will happen in basketball, because just a couple of recruits can change a whole program, but wouldn't be surprised if Stanford because a powerhouse in 10 years. Could Harvard, Princeton, and Yale make a comeback?

Edit: Also, when will the FBI start a sting on college athletes for tax evasion? I doubt all of the sponsors are going to be great at tax withholdings...

What happens when a 5* flips. That’s a sunk cost!

How much did a 5 star cost before NIL? Cam was $250k 11 years ago.

Price tag is 7 figures for a 5* QB currently.

Just like the NFL the QBs, pass rush ends, and blind side OTs will command the most.

So if Cam was $250k 11 years ago... the price tag for any of those 3 will very likely be between $250k and $1.5 mmUSD.

Have a feeling LSU has an advantage here. Our athletes just have a knack for getting on television and in the public spotlight. Mostly in a good way. And they always rep LSU as much as possible. with the NIL other incoming recruits will see this

The crazy part is some of the elite high school players will be making more money, driving nicer cars and living in bigger houses than most of the assistant coaches recruiting them. Top high school basketball player - only going to be a junior - just signed with company to handle his NIL sponsors and is expected to be worth millions by the time his high school career is open! This stuff is getting crazy!

Believe it or not , LSU was very pro-active in trying to brand.our NIL. It is part of most visits now. Have they been effective ? Guess we will see on signing day .

I knew LSU has really been pushing NIL as a positive thing, so I'm also very excited about it all plays out. I think we're all in for a wild recruiting season, because NIL changes the entire landscape of how you recruit players now! Money will be flowing freely for sure!

Some will. But the schools with the deep pocketed boosters who own businesses and want to win badly enough will GLADLY go into the red over these nil deals if it results in or maintains a powerhouse football program.
