re: Do you prefer LSU to have a "big" kickoff game or rent-a-win to start the season?

That UNC game in Atlanta was good for the first half then Les Miles’ offense happened

Probably big kickoffs.
I would like for them to get away for FCS schools.
Play those " one year wonder " schools like BYU, Cincinnati, or South Florida that play nobody and rack up that one undefeated season. The one were their fans think they deserve to play in the National Championships.
Also would like LSU to play at least 2 teams of the other power 5 each year. Rotate them
Ex. One year play Oregon and Nebraska and the following year play a team like Iowa and Florida State.
Those fans are always complaining that the SEC in not tough. Love to show different.

legit opponents, the rent-a-wins do nothing for me - ever.

To be completely honest, this UCLA game fits neither category in the OP.
I haven't heard much of UCLA in the recent past, they haven't been a contender. I just googled predictions, and CBS has them going 7-5... WITH them beating LSU. So they're a middle-of-the-pack Pac 12 team, not an elite opponent like Oregon would be.
Which is interesting in another way- how many times do we remember LSU being favored to LOSE, to a 7-5 team? I guess CBS doesn't think 2020 was a fluke.

but most of the time I like LSU to start with a rent-a-win to iron out the kinks.
I know it wasn’t the opening game, but we all thought Troy was a rent a win. No kinks got ironed out there.
Personally I like the big game to open the season. I think playing a really good team to start adds a little extra focus to the preseason practices.

I don’t mind starting off big but this year UCLA gets a game under their belt before facing us
So what. If we can’t beat the 3rd or 4th best Pac10 team without a warmup game, then we aren’t championship material anyway.
