Wife's (No Pics) company is going full remote, they are offering up to $1000 for home office printer. We don;t need 4k photo quality, but speed, ease of use, and quality need to be better than reliable. Currently have Brother 9340CDW and it is extremely underwhelming.

For that kind of money I would buy one of the smaller Savin or Ricoh models.

Stay away from the HP Color LaserJet Pro M283fdw. It prints nice, but slow and noisy as hell. Even the wife who wanted the color laser doesn't use it much.

Since, I print in color maybe once a year, my old HP LaserJet P4015n still kicks arse, prints over 60ppm, and a toner cartridge lasts 4-5 years years

That’s the exact model I was considering

For $1000 that gives your some options, but what is it really needed to print? You mentioned speed, ease of use and quality. That's all relative so maybe some specific types of files that will be printed (pics/graphics, charts and reports). You may need to put a target up for speed with a specific PPM color/b&w...

I'm a huge fan of Brother and they've been good for me, 2 printers in 18 years....and only got rid of first one cause i upgraded to MFP with color

I'd definitely get a Brother laser if you mainly print in B&W, and then have a cheap little printer for color. I've never messed with color lasers, mainly because I rarely need color and the fact that the cartridges are so freaking expensive. I did hear somewhere though that the newer Brother's aren't built as well as the older models, not sure how true that is.

I have an older brother and a new one, and they both work the same. I also have a newer hp color (similar model to above), and I will say the brother printers are less quirky. Nothing really wrong with the newer hp, just the old brother is a workhorse that just runs.

I have a Brother MFC laser printer that is excellent. Then I bought a color one that sucks.
