So after the year of covid I feel like I'm the unhealthiest I've ever been. My job went virtual and I sit staring at a computer all day instead of being in the field doing my normal job. My question is, how important are genetics for your blood numbers? I was paranoid about having terrible numbers because I feel unhealthy. Anyway, I went to the Dr and got my tests completed, I gained about 10 lbs in a year but my numbers were optimal. So after reviewing with my Dr, I asked my mom about it and she said her side of the family has great lipid numbers and they are not healthy....they eat bad and smoke. I do not smoke or eat too bad but I definitely am the most unhealthy I've been in my entire life. So do genetics really play that big of a factor in cholesterol, blood pressure, etc? I feel extremely lucky because my results were great.

Genetics play a part, but they don’t promise anything. The choice is your’s. You gained 10 pounds in a year? Easy, man. Eat better, drink and less go exercise 3-4 times per week. You’ll be fine. Just make the choice to adjust your lifestyle and your health concerns should take care of itself. I highly recommend getting into strength training. If you’re looking for a good gym in the Baton Rouge area, let me know.

Genetics play a role, but, absent medical abnormalities, this is something you can fix with a better diet and exercise.

genetics do play a role like the others said....but let me ask you a question....how many obese 80 year olds do you see rolling around in a scooter? Compare that with the amount of skinny 80 year olds you see walking around, which one do you see more of?

an obese old person is not the easiest to find even with all of the medical advancements we have today. and the ones that do live a miserable life with lack of mobility.

so make the choice now on how you want to live when you are 65 plus.

Fairly important.

I'm hoping you are talking about real numbers and not the bill of goods we've been sold over the years on this topic.

Like the other guy said - not saturating your brain with glucose for the next 40 years and being on the thin side headed into the twilight will probably vastly outweigh your genetics.
