The importance of @SSJreef to @LSUBasketball: he leads LSU in defensive rebounding % (22.6), total rebound % (17.6), net rating (+19 per 100 possessions), and rebounds per 40 min. (12.6). Defense allows 82 points per 100 when he's on the floor; 103 points per 100 when he's off.

He seems to be getting better each game, but he still needs to "play bigger" to me.

Pulling for Shareef. Words hard. I hate to say it but his talent level demonstrated so far never a star but Instead off the bench. I hope I am wrong.

I thought O'Neal played pretty well down the stretch vs. A&M and at times vs. Texas Tech. Well in the sense he did what you hoped he could contribute. He was decent on the glass and played pretty well defensively. I recall one instance where he was forced to switch on McClung and really held his own on the perimeter with McClung clearly looking to drive on him.

Aside from the in-bounds woes, if there was one thing I could be critical of Wade for at the end of the game it was having Leblanc in over Wilkinson. O'Neal was fine and Wilkinson had done a good job against McClung in the second half. Leblanc let McClung get free for one three when LSU was up 71-64 and then a dagger when he COMPLETELY lost sight of where the ball was, allowing Tech to get an easy offensive rebound and kick it out to McClung to make a wide open 3 to make it 71-70.

Those two plays COMPLETELY changed the game and outcome and, IMO, Wade didn't have to have Leblanc in there because Shareef was doing fine at the "5"

It will be interesting to see what Wade does to fill Days's absence. Bama wants to go wide open and shoot a bunch of 3's. Clearly whatever LSU did defensively in the 1st game didn't work. But maybe having O'Neal's height could pose some issues in game two. It is impossible to replace Days's contributions, but I think O'Neal has looked fine in his role since he's come back.

Leblancs defense was fine on the first three, it was actually Shareef that didn’t get out quick enough to hedge the screen. The second three was inexcusable though. You just can’t lose track of the ball there.

Some dumb Aggie sitting behind me the other night yelled "your dad would have dunked it" when he missed a layup.

He just needs to put on some more weight/muscle. The passion and hustle are there. He needs to develop some offensive skills too so he can be some type of threat to score.

He doesn't play above the rim well. You can be his height/weight combo and play above the rim. He almost tries to play like a 6'4" guard or something. It's weird.

Needs to get stronger. Should be able to do that with just effort and determination. Appears to want to get better.

A player taller than 6’7” is a better rebounder. Go figure

I thought this thread was about Shareef, not Trendon.

Well, he came down with 6 rebounds in just 21 minutes against Texas Tech, so he played big and did really well there. But yes, I agree, he can be more of a physical presence on offense and defense. Maybe he is shaking off the cobwebs offensively since he didn't play a ton following his open heart surgery at UCLA.

I looked up a high school clip just now from him to see what he was like there. Wow. Seriously impressive. I had no clue he had skills like this:
