They tried to vette the zealous Nazis and separate them from the other prisoners. There was animosity between the two groups, and at least one case, I believe in Arizona, of them killing each other.

The Italian POWs at Jackson Barracks also preferred POW life to fighting for Il Duce.
They did gardening, laundry, and cook work. Flirted with the female civilian workers.
Several returned to Louisiana soon after the war and married the girls they met in New Orleans while prisoners.
Cool little WW2 story.

The Louisiana maneuvers project is the reason the traffic circle in BBC Alexandria exists. Residents weren’t allowed to use what is now MacArthur drive, they had to use the service roads. MacArthur drive, was strictly for military use only.

Since the dawn of time Ball has been the world's largest speed trap. Having a heart attack? ticket for 46 in a 45. Your wife is going in labor? ticket for 46 in a 45. But I am pleased to announce that the speed limit is now 55 in Ball.

Its 55 now but ill be damned if I don't find myself always still going like 45 or 50 at the max through there. Not trying to get stopped

Hope it happens. I grew up hearing stories about the stuff that was buried at CC. Would be interesting to have our own backyard "Curse of Camp Claiborne"....LOL

I can only guess that in Nazi Germany, it was either fight for Hitler or end up in a concentration camp yourself for the average young, able bodied man. Wasn’t that a major reason they gave for persecuting the Jews, that they wouldn’t fight in WWI?

my mother lived in Algiers during the war, her observation on POWs was that she never saw a skinny one...

You ain't lying I went through the other day knowing it was 55 as I passed through Kingsville and I looked down in Ball and I was going 40... frickers.
And yes, the police are very active in Grant Parish all over. I've had them pop out from behind pine trees with radar guns right on the end of the bridge going over the LaSalle/Grant line, and had the cop car hidden around a curve about 300 yards away to pull you over. unreal.
