What’s the deal with LSU turning bad shooting teams into 3 pt sharpshooters?

SIUE was 2-11 against St Louis the night before and 12-26 against us.

I get it that WW teams don’t defend the 3 well, but if a team can shoot, they can shoot, and won’t take 15 shots less from 3 the night before if they can.

If St Louis defended it well, maybe 6 or 7 for 26, not 2-11.

Poor on ball defense, leads to people having to help, leads to open shooters on the perimeter.

ETA: When they went full court pressure, the defensive intensity was much better. With the depth they have this year (especially when Manning and Leblanc are back) I would definitely run some sort of at least 3/4 court pressure all the time.

It’s one of the most infuriating things about LSU under Wade. And I love the man. But for fricks sake every team magically becomes the Splash Brothers when they play us. Like we’re allergic to rotation perimeter defense.

I’ll hold back my thoughts until tomorrow. Wade states this morning they held back a lot of the new Defense in preparation for tomorrow’s game.

SIUE having just about the same number of rebounds as us is just as concerning. We’ll find out a lot more about this team tomorrow though.

To the tune of Sweet's 1972 "Little Willy" song:

Little Willy's teams won't, play D.

The only thing I can think of is that LSU is so bad at leaving wide open shooters on the perimeter that they are doing it on purpose?

Maybe Wade is inviting them to shoot 30% from three, thinking he can simply outscore them on the offensive end?

This has always been an issue for Wade even when he was at VCU. For whatever reason he does not coach perimeter defense very well.

Maybe it is a strategy of his. He would rather give up wide open threes than wide open layups so he coaches help defense to crag hard. In college basketball there are only a handful of teams that can beat you by the three alone so maybe that’s the thinking.
