Vilma was probably the smartest guy on the field when he was on it. He knew what the other team was thinking especially in 2009.

Davis is unbelievably talented and physically more talented than Vilma.

I'd go Davis and what is surprising is that he's 31 and that was how old Vilma was in his final year with the Saints.

Davis is better in run support, tackling and pass defense.

Vilma was a team leader who got everyone in the right at the right times and made plays, but Davis is only a step or 2 behind in that regard.

I'll go with Davis.

Y’all mother frickers are crazy! Vilma let a sub par defense to a Super Bowl and won. I love Davis but he has much more talent around him than Vilma did. Vilma by a mile.

Davis easily, Vilma was no where near as good aS Davis in coverage.

Vilma’s strength was coverage and intelligence but I still agree with your post. Vilma was average at best against the run. Davis is good in every facet of a LB

Fields was a better athlete than Vilma, but Vilma was the better linebacker. There's no way Fields runs the defense in Williams's scheme like Vilma did.
I think the same is true comparing Davis and Vilma, but man it's close.

All Fields was, was fast, he really had no instinct, coverage skills, and a mediocre tackler. He damn sure had a lot of hussle and heart though. For some reason I’m remembering him as an OLB though or did he play middle? Was it Isaac Bruce he chased down from behind?

Fields was a WLB, and you're right, fast as hell

Like Belichick said when we kicked that Patriot arse in 2009, "If we block Vilma we get yards, if we don't, we don't".

I didn't see Vilma much in his NY Jets years, but Davis is much better than Vilma was in his Saints years.
