I have been wanting to upgrade the TV for awhile. I finally pulled the trigger with Best Buy's deal day to match Prime Day.

It will be delivered Friday. Does anyone know if I will regret it? I don't know a lot about TV's but from what I read, it seemed liked OLED is a superior picture so I paid the extra money for it. It is a lot of money for a TV, will it be worth it?

My current TV is a 65" LG Ultra HD 4k 60 Hz. This will be 77" OLED 120 HZ. It will arrive Friday and I will set them up side by side to see if I deem the upgrade to be worth the cost, and if not I will return it.

Wanted to get opinions from others with more tech knowledge than me on this TV and things to look for/consider?

You won't regret it. I have a 65" Lg oled from two years ago. It's incredible. Make sure you watch HDR content from Netflix when you compare the picture to really appreciate it.

That’s great to know. What about live sports? That’s a big thing for me

Sports are the bulk of my watching as well. LG oleds (especially the newest models) handle motion extremely well. But again, it's a source issue and unfortunately most sports broadcasts are still 720p and 30 fps. Long story short, your new tv will give you as good of a picture as there can be for viewing sports.

Make sure you have a Blu-Ray player with Dolby Vision, HDR10 and Dolby Atmos. These discs will blow away anything you get streamed.

Blade Runner, The Final Cut in 4K HDR10 with Dolby Atmos is incredible, like watching a movie you've never seen before. Visuals and Sound that are just flat in previous releases (and even against the streaming 4k version on Vudu) in the 4k BluRay version pop out at you with amazing clarity and an enveloping sonic experience. When Deckard is eating at the street restaurant as it rains, conversations around him can now be made out and it sounds as if you are right there in the middle of the rain. Streaming just reduces the effect so much that if you compare the two, you'll never want to watch it via streaming again.

Like others have said, just because you have a HDR tv that doesnt mean everything you watch will be HDR. Anything over cable will be basic HD quality. Netflix, amazon, blu ray, etc will give you the HDR options (cost extra on netflix i think)

4K HDR live sports is relatively rare. DirecTV has a dedicated channel for it and will have an event or two about every week. Last year's super bowl was 4K HDR and looked amazing but you needed satellite/cable to get it.

This thread at avsforum keeps track of 4K sports events:

Bought an LG OLED a year ago. It was the C9. Was going for the 75", but a friend told me that it was too large for his viewing angle. Bought the 65" on a year end closeout deal. Upgrade from a much older plasma tv that was left in the house when we bought it that had incredible resolution.

Congratulations on your purchase... best money you could've spent. My only complaint about the tv is that it absolutely sucks when my wife sneaks into the den and watches wife shows about sextuplets. Buyer be forewarned.

Why don't people ask this BEFORE they make their purchase

Tech Board. I bought this TV is it any good?

Gaming Board. I bought this game what do you guys think, will I like it?

Movie Board. Hey guys I rented this movie. Before I watch it, what are all of your opinions on it?

I just don't get it.

But the TV should still upscale content making it a much better picture than his other TV.

Yeah I was about to say, that argument is pretty dead anymore. Upscaling engines using AI are incredible.

The AI based upscale engine in Samsung's 2020 8K lineup is exceptional.

I saw some video at a NASA contractor's office last week at KSC that had been shot using a RED 8k camera with a custom lens designed for 8k video by Canon. They were showing it on an 8k 85" Samsung. Blew me away! Unbelievably good. I want it so bad, now.

Resolution upscaling, yes. But I’m not aware of any HDR type enhancements
