I have a 5 year old LG TV that has 3 white spots that appeared over the weekend. A google search reveals that its lenses that have become unglued. I found several DIY repairs, but reviews seemed to be mixed and the repair is not for faint of heart.

I asked a local repair man and he said that gluing the lenses is only a short term fix and the LED strips need to be replaced for $200.

It's insane to spend $200 to repair a 55" LG TV that's 5 years old, right?

At current TV prices, yes. Bought a 50 inch 4k UHD Samsung Smart TV for $350 back in May. The 55 inch version is $400. I would keep using what you have until it doesn't work and buy a new one.

I inherited One that did this and I’ve fixed it twice and it still has them falling off. Going in the trash as soon as I can get a new one. Don’t bother fixing it.

depends on the model. For an OLED a $200 repair makes sense.

Post a pic of the issue. I'm curious how bad it looks.

Those appear to be right where the business parts of the TV are. They're too perfectly positioned to be random. If you watch a rtings review of any TV and they do the thermal imaging, you'll see that the hot spots are right where you're seeing white.

I have no idea. I'd be searching AVS forum to see if others have reported the same thing.
