WITB - Is it a big deal?

My Golf Spy does some cool things, but sometimes I think they just get too full of themselves, actually more and more lately. In one of their latest rants, they go off on publications featuring What's in the Bag (WITB). They think that it negatively influences Joe Golfer to run out and buy the weekly winners clubs right off the rack.
Does knowing WITB influence your game in any way?
I think I know the Golf Board answer as most of you all are proponents of getting fit.
I suppose it's just another click bait post from MGS.

If joe golfer thinks they are capable of hitting the same club the pros are hitting, they deserve to waste their money.

That's my thought as well.
Guess I'm just tiring of MGS and their inflated sense of self-worth. I enjoy some of their tests, but wow, have they really changed lately.

Their worth is in their testing and data, no doubt. But they've made their point and it has become repetitive. When you mass test, even over multiple golf skill levels, just about every piece of equipment is equal if not close enough to it. The golf ball testing was good and the conclusions from it made real waves. But outside of that, they don't really have great content. They rate equipment like most other sites do: opinions about quality, usability, price, etc. Golf bags, range finders, speakers... they're doing their part to sell these things to average joe.

Agree. The golf ball test is actually one of the only pieces of data/info worth a look.

I thought there was a bunch of controversy around their ball test? People saying Snell paid to be top rated and what not?

This accusation has occurred in several instances. "We are independent, unbiased and always put the #ConsumerFirst." This has been their mantra, but doubts have arisen. Snell had a lot of advertising on their site, way before the test. It's just a very bad look to have all that advertising, and then pronounce that ball the best. I noticed they do not have ads any more, so at least they did that.

Everyone I know who had played them love them. So there must be some truth to it.

It may, but if someone is dumb enough to do that, more power to them. I'll always remember the interview with Aaron Baddeley a couple of days after he came on tour and signed with McGreggor to play their clubs. A reporter asked him, "How long did it take you to decide to go with McGreggor as the best fit for you?" He replied, "About 5 seconds after I saw the amount of money they were paying me."

Agreed, I don't care for MGS but I do think many are influenced by what pro's are playing. I always find it quite strange. I could not care less what clubs Tiger, Rory, etc play. I only care what works for me.

Infulence , maybe sometimes to be honest, It is good that you can get a early look at new stuff coming out and I like looking at some guys wedge grinds.
If you are a Club Ho/equipment guy like I tend to be, it is fun looking inside their bags.
Charles Howell III has always been fun to watch his bag change thru the years, he is probably one of the biggest Club Ho's out there.
There are a couple of guys on Tour that were still playing the Ping Zing 2 irons a couple of years ago, who would have thought ?
GolfWrx does a good job with it. Not big on My Golfspy at all.
