Are those kinds of things Netflix driven, or giving producers freedom and the producers leaning that way? I would imagine if Netflix is skewing the creative direction of a production, it's more about appealing to an international audience than catering to US PC. They are up to 193 million subscribers worldwide. "Only" 73 million of those are from the US.

What's the single country with the biggest subscriber base? I'm willing to bet it's USA.

So repeating Shyamalan’s mistake. Great idea.

And yeah, there could be a story in the Avatar universe with more blood and sex (which I don’t think Bryke would be against), but not with The Last Airbender.

The money angle makes some sense. After I watched the show I tried to picture how they would turn it into a live action show and they were/are going to need a Harry Potter level production to do it right. The HP films spent $100-$250 million on just the effects for each film and that was 10 years ago. I can see them thinking $300 million wasn't enough for 10 hours of content and Netflix feeling they couldn't afford to spend more on the project.

Kids shows get less critical attention and awards consideration. With all that money invested, I think netflix wanted something with appeal beyond the 8-15 demographic (and adult fans of the original). Not saying that is good for us, but it probably would have been good for business if the creators had stayed.

Can't wait for someone to still claim wokeness after the creators allegedly left when netflix wanted white actors. Let's perpetuate a stupid narrative even after we know it's stupid!

And none of that would surprise me either.

I still think upping the age of characters to make this more of adult-appeal show sounds very believable just because I think it makes business sense with this massive budget. I'll probably never have any proof of this.

The truth behind "creative differences" splits very rarely comes to light, outside of mostly bullshite, unverified rumors. I expect this will split will follow suit.

They wrote un-producable scripts. Period.

The creators only knew how to write for animation and had no clue how to make something work within reality. They had several re-writes, never coming close to a live action script. Just had to move on.

Curse did so well, they want to rebrand Avatar:TLA the exact same way which mean some casting change. White actors are not needed right now for lead roles. They need weak look white actors that does not stand out or look emasculated.

And I am not even white but i noticed the trend.

I will say this though: I was always uncomfortable them taking the breadth from months to years potentially ruining the series. The fact that the series takes place over 10 months is where the tension derives from, in that almost no matter what Aang does he will ultimately be drastically underprepared to face the Fire Lord. 4 years as I’m guessing the live action series will go for will just be perceived as a college education and thus ready to take anything on.
