One of the endearing memories I have of the Black Hills is going in the tunnel up the mountain and looking straight at Mt. Rushmore.

You should leave your parent’s basement occasionally.

You know, the “Jane you Ignorant Slut” thing was a gem. SNL was borderline the equal to Python back then, sort of ten years late. Anyway, I can’t link it but I remember it from 40+ years ago when Ackroyd was arguing with Jane about overtures to China and opening businesses, including MacDonald’s. “Jane, you want to give those 1,000,000,000 people massive sources of meat and protein and aggression will follow. If we have to send 1,000,000,000 Chinese anything, for God’s sake, let it be Sominex.

The natives DO have a monument underway, Crazy Horse, also in the Black Hills.
A guy who worked on Rushmore started Crazy Horse but died before it was finished (think there were some funding issues as well). If it ever gets finished, that Crazy Horse monument would be, bar none, maybe the coolest thing on the planet.

I found Mount Rushmore to be very awe inspiring.

Chicago Tribune (1995)

Cher thought the faces on Mt. Rushmore were carved naturally.
Yes, the Honorable U.S. Rep. Sonny Bono (R-Calif.) confirms this fact about his famous ex-wife in one of the more cerebral intellectual journals.

But, somehow, the topic of Cher and Mt. Rushmore. Yes, he says, the story is true:
"When I met Cher she was 16, and Cher can be this pillar of wisdom or this incredibly naive person. Cher has decided that Mt. Rushmore was a natural phenomenon. And I said if that is true, then I'm going to become a monk."

The feds have offered to pay to finish it multiple times but the tribe refuses any help from the U.S. government.

No shared monuments.
We need separate monuments to recognize the heroes of the Black Marxist Lives Matter and AntiFa Fascist movements.....a giant pile of excrement:

The tribal leaders take all the money anyway. Nothing gets put back into the community. I visited a reservation in South Dakota, same trip as when I went to Rushmore. It’s the poorest place in the country, 90 percent unemployment but 100 percent alcoholism, and that’s not a typo. They refuse any kind of outside influence that tries to help them, and will actively keep businesses out to keep up their “way of life.”
Their way of life is 30 people living in a trailer with outdoor plumbing and kids getting eaten by wild dogs. Plus the extremely high rate of suicide, but nooooo we don’t want a Walmart because this is sacred land.

There are some who live in real homes in and around Rapid City and not on the reservation.

Go to the nighttime show. It will send chills up your spine. One of the greatest things you can experience in a National Park.
