It’s a new(ish?) cryptocurrency that you can mine from your phone. It’s still in Beta.

Per their website:

“Mining crypto is hard.
Investing in crypto is risky.
Too many of us are left out of the cryptocurrency revolution.

Pi makes crypto mining easy

Breakthrough tech allows you to mine on your phone without draining your battery.”

If you’re interested click Here, read about it/watch the video. Then you can download the app. You have to be invited, so use my name (dlauw).

There’s a FAQ in the app as well as a chat to talk to admins and devs.

Honestly, I don’t know much about cryptocurrency but frick it, this seems easier than all the other stuff I looked into a couple years back. Supposedly, all I have to do is open the app once a day.

This is from their FAQ:

Do I need to leave the app open to mine? Does the app drain my battery or data?

You do not need to leave the app open to mine. Pi does not affect your phone’s performance, drain your battery, or use your network data . Once you hit the lightning button, you can even close the app and you will continue to mine Pi. Read less

So how can you mine a cryptocurrency without draining your battery or data? Instead of burning energy as proof of work cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin do, Pi secures its ledger when members vouch for each other as trustworthy. This forms a network of interlocking “security circles” that determines who can execute transactions. This novel approach allows crypto mining on your phone by leveraging your existing social connections, with no financial cost, no battery drain and a light footprint on the planet. Read the technical section in our White paper for more accurate and detailed explanation.

Just noticed that Pi is up to 2.5 million users. Anybody think this will actually get some real value?

Use code gray80818 if you want to join up.

Bumping this. A few of us have been mining since this was posted. Would like a few more.

Pi is a new digital currency being developed by a group of Stanford PhDs. For a limited time, you can join the beta to earn Pi and help grow the network. To join Pi, follow this link LINK and use my username (dlauw) as your invitation code.
