Recently picked up my clubs after a year off. Now that I’ve settled in, irons are better than ever and I’ve learned how to really compress the ball by moving low point of my swing forward. I get slightly flippy with my hands which I’m working on but overall I’m happy with my irons.

That said, this newly discovered downswing has destroyed my driver swing (I swing a Ping 410 with 10 degrees of loft) as I now sky everything...hitting under the ball and hitting off hosel. This used to not be the case and driver was pretty consistent.

I know ball should be inside left heel, spine tilted back with lower right shoulder, etc. However, I can’t make anything work. Nothing I do gets the club moving on a slight upswing as I come through the ball. Probably something going on with an early extension as well.

Anybody else work through similar issues? I’m lost.

Move ball position way out in front of your front foot.

Tee it high.

Hit a few.

Gradually move ball back.

Golf is hard. So many skills to master..
Looks like your iron swing is dialed in.

The following drill is recommended by Gary McCord in his book Golf for Dummies.

McCord suggests finding an upslope and setting up so that your front foot is a little higher than your back foot. Tee the ball and hit drivers off that upslope. The uphill lie, McCord writes, promotes the feeling of staying behind the ball at impact on drives. That prevents your body from moving ahead of the ball before impact, which causes the driver to come into impact too steeply. Remember: Sweep, not steep, with your driver to avoid pop-ups.
