Has to be the nastiest fish ever consumed by a human.
How in the world could a respectable restaurant have it on their menu.

Friend,
Tilapia, with an I, was good enough for Jesus. It’s certainly good enough for us. If you’ve ever had fresh wild tilapia, which I presume you haven’t, your words might be more respectful about this delicious fish. I prefer it to many fish including redfish, tuna, mackerel, mako, catfish, cod, rainbow trout, white trout, swordfish, and gar.
I can only surmise its dismissal by food snobs comes from its ubiquity and low cost. If it were as expensive or difficult to come by as, say, tripletail, which tastes similar, the same despisers might become its fiercest defenders.
Sincerely,
TulaneLSU

First time I ever had tilapia was at K-Paul's back in the late 80's and it was delicious. It's a versatile fish that can be sauced in many ways.
Only later did it become farmed under deplorable conditions and I won't eat it any more. Swai either. Ew.

Friend,
Taste wise Tilapia is not really nasty. It doesn’t really taste like anything. However it is a non-native fish, grown in feces, and buying it supports people that live across the globe, not down the street. It’s fine for trashy psychotic lunatics like TulaneLSU, but should certainly be shunned by the rest of us. I support your aversion to It.

You also eat at Golden corral and keep teenage girls tied up in your garage.

It has no flavor other than whatever seasoning you put on it.

Tilapia is easily farm raised and provides a good filet yield. So processors love it. Restaurants like it because it’s readily available and it basically is tasteless, so it won’t taste fishy. It is a bland fish that has no taste and should never be eaten.
