Are you old enough to have seen them live? And if so did you?

9 albums rates 4 star or better at Allmusic. 5 at 4.5. You are a moron.

Queensryche, etc. - perfect high school fodder.

I don't agree - Queensryche was better than that for sure.

As for KISS - Not among my very favorites anymore, but they were my first rock concert in 1979, so there's the nostalgia factor. Still like lots of their tunes.

You're doing the a favor by them not having to suffer with your miserable pretentious self.

I came to the realization a while back that unless Ace Frehley or Vinnie Vincent was involved, Kiss kind of suck

Bruce Kulick had a good run too and made some real contributions.

My high school days only covered early Queensryche. I was listening to them before anyone I knew had heard of them - picked up the EP cassette while browsing at the mall record store just because the name sounded cool. My high school days ended before Rage for Order and Operation: Mndcrime, which is around when they really hit their stride in my opinion.

One of the reasons I let KISS slide with having a lot of “filler” is that they cranked out albums at an incredible rate. While other bands generally put out a new album every 2-3 years, KISS was cranking them out seemingly every 6 months for a while. While I prefer quality over quantity, creating music is what it’s all about, and pretty much every record they put out had at least a couple hits on it.

Last week I was hanging out with a friend who played in bands in the ‘80s/‘90s (and was in the original Razor White with Phil Anselmo), and I was telling him about this thread and discussing KISS. That got me on an old KISS kick and I revisited some of their early music that I never paid much attention to since my KISS days started with Destroyer. Songs like Strutter and Cold Gin are great songs for that era.

Now I’ve been on a KISS binge because of this thread. In the past week I’ve learned Strutter, God of Thunder, and started learning Shock Me on guitar. Detroit Rock City amd War Machine were already in my regular rotation when I crank up the amp in my gameroom. Some of their old songs are just so fun to play. Ace may not have been the most technically gifted guitar player, but he wrote some damn catchy riffs. As much as Gene and Paul seized control, I think Ace was just the heart and soul of their music. They stopped cranking out great music after Ace left the band.

While they hold that nostalgic factor and maintain their status as a great live show, I think this would be a whole different discussion if the original band had stuck together.
