Production schedules on the Friday the 13th movies

Between May of 1980 and July of 1989 they pumped out 8 of these movies. Even the Harry Potter movies didn’t get made that fast, and they basically never stopped production and had source material to work from. Were they just parked out at Camp Crystal Lake for 9 years?

Formulaic, cheap movies to make. Why not just churn them out as long as people are paying for it?
The same strategy, more or less, is employed with tent poles now. They’re bigger risks, obviously, but they’re a pretty safe investment.

There were no high cost stars with crowded schedules or expensive special effects.
All you really needed was to make sure you had a machete, a few disposable teenagers and that Kane Hodder's schedule was clear and you could churn out a moneymaking sequel in a month or two.

I'd be curious what Saw was like too. It seemed like there was a new movie every year when I was in college.

Could easily make the same quality film with a few friends with very little training in less than a month in todays world

Also not a ton of dialogue in those films. You have a main villain who doesn't say a word and a bunch of scenes of people creeping around in silence.
You almost don't have to write a script at all.

Actually it was eight films. They changed locations. The production time on these films weren't long at all. I figured this knowledge would be obvious to anyone who has seen the films. I love them, but they aren't exactly Citizen Kane in terms of quality.

Yeah 8 not 7. Yeah I know these aren’t great films but still seems like an insane clip.

Horror movies often have great ROI as they can be made extremely cheaply with no star power and people will still see them simply because they are in the mood.
The same shite happened with Saw and all those Paranormal Activity movies and it's clones.

The friday the 13th films were not quality films. They had an established fanbase though. No one goes into those films expecting compelling storytelling.

The Harry Potter movies had a budget of something like $1.5 billion dollars, with dozens of sets and locations, and a cast and crew that numbered in the thousands.

Real question is,when are we getting another Friday the 13th?

It cost more and took far greater effort to make one HP movie than it did to make and market all the 80s Friday the 13th movies combined.

I'd heard a sequel to the 2009 film was planned, but it just never got off the ground.

Friday the 13th was so formulaic that it was basically its own source material.
