I’ve got a 1/2 inch natural gas line on my back porch from the house with a ball valve and cap on the end of the nipple. I’m looking to fit it with quick connects to be able to swap to either a natural gas grill or a portable generator. The gas regulator for the generator conversion kit says it can take a maximum supply pressure of “8 oz” (which I assume is 8 oz/in^2 or 1/2 psig). I have no idea what the supply pressure might be of my 1/2 inch line. I was going to buy a gauge to check and then hope I don’t have to regulate it down before it gets to the generator regulator. Any ideas or tips here? Any thoughts on what pressure I might expect? Is there a standard here?

Call the gas company that supply you to find out what pressure they set their meters at.

I have nearly the same setup, you wont have any issues with pressure. If anything you may have issues with not enough volume to supply your generator if your line is a long run from your house gas meter. Most of those gen set conversion kits have a table showing pipe size for length of run to the generator. Mine was just over the spec where they recommend 3/4 inch pipe to deliver the volume, but the 1/2 line runs my 5KW just fine on full load

You can build a simple pressure test gauge setup with hardware store fittings but the toughest part is finding a gauge with the resolution you need. You'll need a low pressure gauge, 0 - 20psi. I built my own several years ago with some iron pipe fittings.
