US Women's Amateur

I've got a 4 year old and I keep telling myself she has plenty of time to become interest in golf and good at golf. Then I watch some of these girls play in the US Open at 15 years old. I guess guys are different, due to the amount of men playing golf v. women playing golf.

But I am constantly shocked at the amount of young girls that can play with the LPGA pros and in high level am tournaments.

I don’t understand how the USGA can run all of their events at such a high level.....then stub their toes with the US Open.


Getting any USGA event in the deep, Deep South is a major accomplishment - I never saw anything about it in any Louisiana newspapers (not saying much)...and I live just 5 hours from the course.

Heck, there was very little local / state media coverage when the USGA hosted the women’s Mid Am at squire creek a few years ago.

My daughter really liked playing from 8-12 y/o. We would put her through various golf camps. It was really fun when I got to caddie in a tournament she played in. She lost interest though and is pursuing track and field pretty hard now. She lettered as a freshman last year throwing javelin, which I found out is another very underutilized collegiate scholarship. She’s taken an interest in golf again with Top Golf coming to the area, but I’m afraid she’s missed out on some important years to develop as a player. I’m ok with being able to have her join me for rounds to have fun.

The GOAT lost today, which hurts my heart, but it’s still a really fun event to watch. I’m always so impressed by how good these girls are.

Also glad this year 3 out of the final 4 aren’t Bama players
