I have a Makita 18v that works pretty well. Uses same batteries as my drop, etc...

Dyson seems to own this market. I have one and use it multiple times a week and really have only good things to say about it. It’s versatile, light weight, and has great power.

I was just talking about that exact handheld today! Been having one for a couple years. It has performed flawlessly and I've tried to kill it. You can get the replacement filters on Amazon also FYI.

I have a Shark as well, and love it. Pet Perfect II (though we don't have any pets).

Originally bought that same new Black and Decker that the OP mentioned after having another Black and Decker for about 15 years, but brought it back, mainly because it doesn't have a wall-mount charger. You have to find some counter or shelf space near an outlet and leave it there. That's a pain.

The Shark also has three extensions; one is a POWERED beater brush that runs off of the same battery.

Easy to empty and clean. Fabric filter (not paper) so you can wet-wash it if you want.

Shark...Pet Perfect II

Had one of these before the flood and really liked it. The powered brush head was very effective on upholstery and vehicle carpet.

That is the exact model I purchased and have been very happy with it for about a year now. Be sure to clean the filter regularly to maintain suction.
