NC Let Them Spawn Bill

Not Louisiana but still want your opinion on this.
Let em spawn article
I am alway pro-conservation and pro-angler.
But just like in places around the country proCon and pro-angler cross paths.
Take the Audubon society whom have virtually wrecked the surf fishing industry on hatteras island.
A bird, named the piping plover which is really not indigenous to Pea Island or Hatteras Island lays its egg on the beach side, it closes off the beach to 4wd beach goers elderly and angler for weeks. Anglers plan a yearly trip to the Point and it’s sure to be ruined by a bird that, again is not even in the souther reaches of its traditional habitat.
Park rangers set dog traps and kill other wildlife to protect this bird at the behest of Audubon.
LINK
The Audubon society tried to hinder co struction the Bonner bridge for 40 years and wanted to let the original crumble so no one could get to the islands via bridge.
So a bill like this let em spawn, sounds great to me.
I rarely keep what I catch. I fish for fun, unless happen to catch a slot red drum, black drum, flounder or trout.
Caught a six lb bass last week and kindly asked it to go get some tail and reproduce.
I don’t want to sound like Ted nugnet, it’s really a moment I take with the fish and let it go. The fun was catching it.
But can a bill like this put some really good people in jail or have all their gear taken away?
Would tossing a cast net and getting g some small mullet and pompano land the unknowing angler in some expensive trouble? I’ve had run ins with green jeans before. Some I deserved, but the others were a result of overzealous law enformcent over reaching, and a judge thought so too.
Long of the short, just how big should the waterproof binder be kept on every angler to stay out of trouble? I’m wary of non-sporting politicians making regs for us.

Anglers and hunters contribute huge sums of money to conservation.
People talk about growing our sport and preserving heritage and all that crap then make fishing and hunting regulations ridiculously crypic.

I absolutely loath these people. Attract sharks into area where kids are swimming, hooks cast into water where kids are swimming for what? The mullet you get every three hours? FU.

Nobody really swims on the 4wd accesses of hatteras.
Nags head, yes
Kill devil hills. Yes
Cape point, no.
News flash, if you looked from any pier in the southeast, you’d see 5-7 foot sharks between swimmers.
Shore foraging...... It’s what they have been doing for millennia.

I read the whole article and now I'm thoroughly confused. They state multiple times that the indiscriminate methods of take like commercial shrimp trawls are the main cause of immature fish mortality, but don't give any solution besides instituting a minimum size limit? They're also going to change something with license structure so that commercial fishermen who actually fish get protection because most who buy licenses don't fish? How does any of this help?

Not sure. And the crux of this is, that any legislation can be twisted by the commercial fisherman, angler and law enforcement personnel, to where there is a melee of litigation.

quote:I've never seen a surf fisher casting anywhere remotely close to kids. They're either in areas where nobody is swimming or they fish near dawn and dusk when the sunbathers and swimmers are still asleep or packing up their beach gear to leave.

I’ve only caught one person. It was my cousin.

Did you keep her, or throw her back?

The guy in the video compares his struggle to that of the American Indian.

It was actually hillarious.
I knew he was out there. I didn’t have circle hooks on the line. Just small wire Aberdeen’s.
I saw the rod bend.
I heard him say something. So I thought he said I had a fish.
I set the hook pretty hard in his toe.
