If u base where they shoulda been drafted on their pro career then tom brady should have never been selected in the 6th round. This is stupid. Reggie had an impact on the game and city bc of the timing. Absolutely he was the pick that year

Agree , if you go by the numbers, he did not live up to 1st round pick.
However he freed up defenses, so he essentially helped that 2006 7th rd pick could become the player he was.
On top of that, his play could have help our coaches look for a compliment rb player to his style. It could possibly allowed the coaches to be comfortable in releasing a 4th round pick rb and sticking with an undrafted rb out of Illinois. One that scored in the Super Bowl.
Bush made some meaningful games that Super Bowl year, Hell look at Miami. That was a big time highlight right there.
Ask the team and coaches how important Bush was on the Super Bowl run ???
The Saints have made bigger mistakes at the first pick. Johnathan Sullivan, Alex Molden, Chris Neole, Russell Erxleben, Shawn Knight come to mind.
Too me, Bush was a crucial pick, because he helped get us our first Super Bowl.
And who is to say any of these guys picked after Bush would have done it ??
Vince Young.
D'Brickashaw Ferguson
Vernon Davis
Michael Huff
Donte Whitner
Nope not a wasted 1st pick to me.

Are these collegiate or pro numbers? I would have to draft based on collegiate numbers, competition and projection. Reggie was a video game at USC.

This is why I love this board.
A whole lotta guys getting drafted in the fifth round that have 88 receptions year one regardless of position huh?
Brilliant
I mean second pick? No. That’s definitely not S Barkley numbers.
But damn

Btw if you add ALL the recs of the TES RBS and WRS from the fifth round last year you get a TOTAL of 60 recs across seven picks.
At worst those are second round numbers for Bush

I will say this.
I look back at the Reggie pick and see a dude that was electric that CSP was salivating to get into his system with Drew. Everybody knew he was going early so we picked him.
Then as the years went by Sean got a better understanding of his offense, of Drew of what he needed from a RB and he realized I overvalued what I need in a RB in this system and I can get the same thing Reggie provided but at a better value if I am smart in the draft and FA.
Hence guys like Sproles and now Kamara.
I don’t think Sean was wrong to draft Reggie. Sean has shown that he will move up to get a guy he likes.
He’s just better at getting value out of it now because he has more knowledge of his system and players

Don’t you realize how important it was for the Saints to draft Bush?
Still in shambles because of Katrina, the Saints and the city needed excitement and Reggie was THE biggest name in CFB in years. This pick excited the fan base and helped spark the rebirth of a franchise the owner tried to move while the city was in turmoil. The guy did wonderful things to aid in the recovery of NOLA as well.
Keep your stats, I’d draft him again in the same circumstances.

Yep, I specifically remember 2009 Wk2 vs Eagles, first score of the game, a fake toss to Reggie and all three LBers biting on it, shifting to their right, leaving a seam on the vacated side wide open for an easy TD pass to Colston.
Very similar, this year, was Brees' record-setting TD pass to TreQuan Smith vs Washington on MNF, where Kamara simply wheeling out of the backfield to the right caused two DBs to bite up to cover Kamara and left Trequan wide the fvck open up the sideline.
Neither Bush nor Kamara get statistical credit for those scores, and yet they were hugely responsible for making those plays happen.

Fake news. He didn’t use college stats, and didn’t clarify, which makes the post stupid. used NFL stats, so NFL level competition
