There hasn't been any new content in a couple of years. I jumped on there earlier, and Justin Lascek posted an update at the beginning of May:

quote:

A handful of years ago content on 70’s Big was hard to come by. You fine folk have been asking where I’ve gone ever since, and now I finally choose to let you know in the face of extraordinary circumstances. I am a United States Army Special Forces soldier, also known as a Green Beret. Ever since I put on the hat, I poured myself into this job in order to prepare for and participate in war.

quote:

About one month into the next deployment we were on a combat operation in a very mountainous area. My element conducted a short hault and I discussed how we would clear a set of compounds that were tactically in a disadvantageous area. The area I stood had been cleared by EOD personnel and had foot traffic around the area. I shifted my weight under my ruck, took a step, and was blown up. As my best friends and teammates treated me, I gave them medical instructions to help their care. My teammates were heroes that
day. Despite the initiation of a “troops in contact”, I didn’t die in the dirt in a far away land. Instead, they put me on a helicopter and countless other fine individuals did and continue to do their jobs of caring for me.

I am a double below the knee (BTK) amputee. The fact that my right leg is a BTK is amazing and a testament to the fantastic surgeons at Walter Reed. My testicles were also blown off, so I require testosterone replacement therapy for the rest of my life and whether or not I can have children is an unknown. I work hard every day to improve and will continue doing so. There’s no definitive date because there are too many variables, but I’ll leave the hospital some time later this year.

I used to love the content on this site. Everything was always very positive, and Justin's articles would run the gamut from strength to mobility to nutrition to Thanksgiving weight gaining contests. I hope he does well with his recovery.

I really like Justin and have all of his books. I knew he had joined SF and recently had been hurt, but never knew the extent of the injuries. Glad to see he is so upbeat and may God bless him. Not many warriors out there willing to out everything on the line for your country like he was.

I had no idea he'd joined the military, much less the Green Berets. He just seemed to fall off the map. It seems like he and Rip have mended fences, so to speak. I'm glad to see that.

frick rip....he has to mend fences with everyone he gets close to. Dude is a straight a-hole and if you have an individual thought, he will shite all over it.

Yeah I get that. He was right to leave crossfit after Dave Castro insulted the frick out of him. But yeah, Rip seems to rub every person he brings into the SS fold the wrong way.

He chased off Johnny Pain when Johnny started recommending programming other than the SS template. Same with Lasceck.

That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed my time on the SS boards when I was doing the program, and I always wish Rip well, even if he is kind of a stuck in his ways dick.

I've read some of Justin's stuff and he seems like a genuine guy, I think most of his advice is pretty sound IMO.

Not to derail the thread but I didn't know about Johnny Pain's previous association (and falling out) with Rippetoe/SS. I'm a big Greyskull fan but JP seems to have dropped off the earth recently, hope everything's alright with him.

Johnny started as a super crossfitter. Right before Rip left crossfit, Johnny put out a manifesto lambasting xfit, and deaffiliated his gym.

He still ran his own gym, but he then associated with Rippetoe and Starting Strength. He ran the nutrition board on Rip's forum.

Rip got pissed when Johnny started putting together programming for people on the forum that was outside of the SS template, so he left and started the Strength Villain website.

Last I heard, he was doing private consulting. Not sure on what though.

Still doing private consultation and will be releasing some books here shortly. I have a conference call with him next week.

Hoping the proceeds with the new books will allow him to open the forum back up.

As far as what he has been up ti, he does a shite ton for veterans and private consulting on self defense to private contractors.

And yes rip got specifically mad after bill star made comments when jp and rip we're visiting about how they did the amrap set at York back in the day on resets. Jp essentially rubbed it in rips face pissing him off, then started more and more drifting away from the SS programming.

I believe they have made up somewhat now though. But they were super super tight for a while.

Yeah. Johnny used to always post about how Rip changed his life, and how he is embarrassed with how he looked before gaining weight and getting stronger using the SS protocol.

I remember when Rip had his first SS coaches roundtable. This was around the time things were going south between Rip and Pain. Johnny didn't look like he even wanted to be there. It was plain to see that something was going on.

From what I was told was that rift was more about rip felt like jp was making money behind his back off of him with the private consultations and didn't like that.

I did talk to jp while ago and will talk to him for an hour next Friday. Will let everyone know his plans.

Excellent. I did a private consult with JP back when he was still with SS. Some small tweaks to the SS program, and some diet changes, and I was squatting more than 405 in less than a year.

Did you ever get around to talking with JP? I received an email from him a month ago asking for donations to his legal fund. What was up with that?
