Gate1Travel has their Tuscany deal going right now. Me and the ex did this 2 years ago and had a blast. Great deal for what you get. Had a friend do it in March and she loved it as well.

I mean that’s great deal. How were the people you were with though? I’ll put it this way, I did a Montalcino wine tour last summer, 2 days, and it cost $750 a person. Did not include any airfare but I did include one night in Sienna. A guide picked us up from the train station, we visited 4 producers the first day, lunch and dinner. The next day visited 4 more wineries and lunch.

I’m not knocking it but sounds to good to be true. How big was the group you were with?

It is not a tour. You fly in, and do everything yourself. We actually stayed two nights in Florence and just had Montecatini as a base camp basically.

Gotcha. Yea we paid for private tour. Drank some 20 year old brunello and was able to ship back a bunch of stuff. Well worth it.

Not to hijack, but I will be there within the next two week. Do you recall who you used for your tour, also was it strictly a wine tour or more of a city tour?

This is legit- and your post 2 years ago is what brought it to my attention, lol. I went full Joe Tourist and did all of Italy in a week- next time I will be a bit more relaxed. Emirates let us fly out of JFK a day early because of a blizzard at no charge and we got a AirBNB in Venice for a bonus couple of nights. Will go again.

Franco’s wine tour. You can do two or one day tours through Montelcino.

I went to Tuscany last year and paid much more than that just for the airfare. I would jump on this.

I would skip out on the car and just ride the train. We drove it the first day and parked it at hotel until we left for Milan the last day. Train is way easier and about the same price after gas and tolls. Hotels were fine. Nothing super amazing, but definitely not a hostel or anything. You can upgrade for like $40 but they were more than fine for the nights we actually used it.

How did you get around Tuscany by train? Trains are great but they don’t go everywhere.

How did you like Montecatini?

We are thinking. Tuscany for our honeymoon but we’re looking to go more the Florence Siena montepliciano route in terms of areas visited.

We only spent 2 nights there, but it was a nice little town. Not a ton of restaurants but we found a really good one. Something Corso...small family run and really nice people. We ate there both nights because of how well they treated us. We stayed one night in Venice and 2 nights in Florence, so it cost us a little more, but well worth what we paid.
