I find there to be 1, maybe 2, very knowledgeable people at Edwin Watts that I would trust doing a proper fitting for something I am going to spend $1k+ on. However (and I do not fully blame Edwin Watts locally for this) their fitting selection (not just the heads, but the shafts and shaft options) is very lacking.

I have gone in a few times and they don't have much in the way of players clubs / blades, and I need x-stiff +1" shafts which they have almost none of. Plus there selection of shafts is very limited. With today's clubs, the shafts can play a huge difference in the performance of the clubs. I hear that GolfTec has a much larger selection.

Now, if you are looking for a more typical club (even a good bit of the players clubs just not the blades) and you are a pretty stock fit, you would be good going there. Just do a couple of things:

1) bring your own clubs to test against the monitor against their clubs. Even if you assume the monitor is not "hot", it is good to see what your clubs are actually doing not what you think they are doing. (but they are "hot")

2) bring your own golf balls that you play. The balls they have to hit on the monitors are more worn out than most driving ranges. They get hit A LOT! Plus it is nice to get fit to the ball you are currently using, unless you plan to change balls. Then it would be nice to get fit to the ball you want to use.

Ditto James Leitz or also Buddha Nguyen at Bebu Golf Studio in Gretna.

That’s almost as bad as your “you can never go too far inside” take.

Also seen recommendations for the two guys at golf balls.com in Lafayette.
I’d likely take a vacation day or two and drive over to get fit.

Likely start with just irons now, and get the driver, woods, hybrids, and putter later.

Is there a consensus on which one to choose?

Gene @ golf balls.com in Laffy. Known him for years

He did my fitting for my Mizuno MP 54's. Very knowledgeable and patient.
