I hear a lot about Japanese whiskeys on this board. What’s the difference between this stuff and a regular American bourbon or whiskey. I gave up brown for lent but want to try when I hop back on the whiskey train.

Generally they taste more like Scotch than American whiskey.

Bourbon: Four Roses single barrel

Scotch: can't go wrong with The Macallan (any of them), but if you like it rich and smokey and you're feeling a bit spendy, I recommend Lagavulin 16. That's what I keep on hand to mark special occasions.
