I are thinking of making a trip to Calgary and Banff next month. We are looking for nice relaxing trip but also want to see the happening in the city and then the beauty of Banff.
When is the best time to be there in spring? What are the must see spots/places? Fun activities to do? The best food to try?

August and Sept in Banff are pretty nice. I’d recommend a rent a car bc everything you want to see needs to be driven to

There are a lot of threads on here is you search.

All the “big” lakes are worth hitting and hiking. Tons of outdoor activities. Food isn’t anything special but isn’t terrible. They have some good beef and wild game available.

Not to discourage you but I don't think next month counts as spring in the northern Rockies. Spring up there is June-July.

It is still a beautiful area no matter the season though. Just expect more winter than spring if you are going in March.

I will be working in Calgary from mid March into June.

...of course I'm watching this thread like a hawk.

april is usually when you see the best prices for lodging.

the banff brewery is pretty good. order the poutine, no matter where you go. there's an irish pub that we really liked, mcquires, i think. make the drive to jasper. we did a couple of hikes in the area, but didn't do anything really at lake louise. lake louise, will be crowded no matter when you go.

that is the most beautiful area i've ever seen. at some point, i would love to have a few days to just poke around and soak as much of it in as possible instead of just passing through

I was there for New Years'. We went to a Flames' game and skiied Sunshine Village and Lake Louise. Would definitely recommend both activities. I've never watched much hockey but it was on 24/7 there. The game was awesome

Went 5 yrs ago. Awesome hikes in the area. Favorite place to eat was the Maple Leaf in Banff.

I put this in another thread, but do some research on Emerald Lake Lodge.

Not far from Banff, or Lake Louise (which is also gorgeous), and one of the prettiest places I've ever been to.

Regarding Lake Louise, we stayed in the Chateau, which was fun, but huge and kind of touristy.

There is the Post Hotel.

You're going to miss out on the Stampede. That's too bad.

Don't forget Moraine Lake, and Lake Louise. You might like to hike in Kananaskis where it's a little less busy. Also you can drive south on highway 22. Cool little towns in the foothills, like Longview. You can take brewery tour. There are a number of different breweries in and around the city that do tours. And of course, you should visit Heritage Park. A "living history museum." After all sightseeings, you can visit Escape 60. Escape room games are one of the funnies calgary activities. Best way to have some fun with a group of friends.

Dinosaur Provincial Park Website Link

It’s about 2 hours SE of Calgary (near Brooks, AB).

Cool place. Take a guided hike there.

Banff is beautiful, also make sure you get to Lake Louise.

The crowds were ridiculous at Moraine. All of the photos you see of the ten peaks are on top of a hill and above a hundred people that completely take you out of the scene. If you get pushed for time skip it.

If you are going to LL you need to hike to the tea house and.

You can find the same kind of scenery for a much better experience at Yoho National Park just West of Banff.

All along the Canadian Rockies you'll find views like that.

The Coast Ranges are also incredible and have icefields and glaciers.

I may have to come back for Stampede.

I ate at Joey Eau Claire last week and the waitstaff was nothing but hot ladies. Also heard The Local has similar goods.

Any others I need to check out?

Peyto Lake if you want to see the bluest natural blue water in nature. People will say go check out Lake Louise. While nice, it is very touristy and not nearly the blue color of Peyto Lake.

Johnston Canyon is also a very easy nice trail
