Planning a trip to Greece, advice wanted

Ok, I am planning a trip to Greece in early September. We will be going for a week and will only be 2 adults. Would it be better to stay in the same city, or see multiple cities? Is there a best place to book hotel and flights? Any other advice y’all have? I know I will get tons of advice so I will read everything and if I have more questions, I will ask. TIA

Definitely see multiple cities. You can see all of Athens in a couple days. Depending how long you plan on staying at each place is how many islands I would go see. You can see/enjoy each island in 2-3 days. I went to Santorini and it had some of the most awesome views in the world. I would try to fit Mykonos in there too.
As far as hotels/flights, I would just go on Google Flights and see who has the best flights for your time and price. You can use AirBNB or Hotels.com to book hotels/lodging. AirBNB will probably have the best rates. It won't be cheap.

Went the first week of this past September. The weather was as good as it gets. Did Amsterdam (mainly because flight was cheap out of MEM at the time), Athens, and Santorini. My advice: Athens can be done in a couple days like stated previously. Get to the sites first thing in the morning to beat the crowds and heat. Would rather spend my time in Santorini. Did three nights there and could've easily stayed a couple more. Definitely rent a car there (the smaller the better). Driving is a piece of cake there. I posted up at one hotel the whole time but wish I would've broken it up into a couple nights at different places just to be able to stay in the different areas. Santorini really is one of the most amazing places ever IMO. Can definitely recommend some places to eat if needed. I used Tripmasters to book. Stayed 2 nights in AMS, 3 in Athens, and 3 in Santorini for right at $1800 per person for flights and hotels. Granted we weren't staying at the Ritz but all were rated 3 stars or better.

A couple days in Athens is sufficient.
Head to the fairy to the Cyclades and visit Santorini, Naxos, Paros , and Mykonos (Depends its a big party island but worth a one day to two stop).
Santorini is most breathtaking and a cant miss but I actually enjoyed Paros the most besides Santorini especially because it was cheaper and not as touristy but still plenty to see.
Also catch a train from Athens to see the Pillars and monasteries of Meteora , very much worth it.

Will follow this. Heading there in June Have about 11 days in Greece. Planning on doing 2 nights in Athens and then departing for 2-3 islands, but would rather be closer to 2 islands. Flying back through London with a stopover to take direct home.
Islands on radar will be some combo of Andros, Noaxos, Paros, Santorini, Mykonos. Would love to get down to Crete, but that seems to be ambitious.

Athens - see the major sites and bail
This was awesome...but it is a haul!
Mykonos, Santorini as others have said.
To get away I would suggest Samos it has an airport) or Hydra (boat only?).
It was a good trip for me (x3). Enjoy.

Bookmarking - just booked the same as 5n/6d was gonna do 1.5d in Athens fly to the rest in Santorini. Part of a big trip so probably just stick to the one island to avoid over-traveling. Any tips on best way to "see the major sites" in a short timeframe would be appreciated, I prefer to knock that out in a day and spend the rest relaxing. Also what hotel/area to stay in Athens, point-friendly options appreciated.

I stayed at the AthensWAS and loved it. It's a boutique hotel on a pedestrian street. We walked everywhere.

Looks great - seems like AirBNB is a cheap option but obviously neighborhood matters. Where should we stay/avoid for 2 night stay?

Of the places I ate in Santorini, Metaxi Mas was hands down my favorite. Recommended by Santorini Dave and well worth the drive off the beaten path. Request to sit outside at sunset. Had lunch at Ammoudi Fish Tavern and Sunset Ammoudi Tavern and both were very good and the locations are really cool and right on the water. Tranquilo is a really cool place for lunch/afternoon snack and drinks. Right on the beach of Perissa. Also have good live music in the evenings. I stayed on this end of the island so I visited a couple late nights for the music. Athenian House is also a great dinner place overlooking the caldera. If you haven't looked up Santorini Dave, do so as he has some good recs.

See multiple cities for sure. Athens is cool with the ruins and the museums, but you're going to want to get out of the city and see some islands. The Aegean is incredible. I recommend Mykanos, Rhodes, and Santorini for sure.

No problem. Not sure if you’re doing Athens too, but take a trip to the top of Mount Lycabettus. Prolly my favorite thing about Athens outside of the obvious stops. I went in the evening and it was really cool. Also Brettos is a cool place for a drink in Athens.

Meteora was superb. You might remember the James Bond monastery scene. We rented a car to get there.
Not too far from Meteora is Mount Olympus. The hikes are nice and you can stay at a beach resort ten minutes from its base.
The temple of Poseidon on Cape Sunio, Athens, is one the greatest places on Earth. It's a good half day trip from Athens. We hired a taxi for the day. It was reasonably priced.
We loved Crete. There is a lot to do on the island. We could have spent two weeks there alone.
Staying in Athens: somewhere between the Acropolis and the archeology museum. I'm sure there are other nice areas, but this area seemed central.
If you can afford it and you like fancy hotels, stay at the Grand Bretagne. It's a neat historic hotel. We rented an Airbnb across from the fish market, which was great.

Get an audiobook of Stephen Fry's Mythos, a retelling of the Greek myths.
Phillip Kerr's thriller, Greeks Bearing Gifts, about the Germans and WW2 is a good read.
And Michael Lewis' article from Vanity Fair, Beware of Greeks Bearing Bonds. From Vanity Fair.
