here's some more, for anyone who wants to defend roster construction (especially at wing & PG) around davis:
quote:
Rajon Rondo was probably the best pure PG that Davis ever played with. They played about 1300 minutes together total (regular season).
Davis has spent more time on the court with the following players:
Tim Frazier
Brian Roberts
Grievis Vasquez
Austin Rivers
quote:
Davis shared the court more with Ian Clark than Buddy Hield. That’s a fun one. I
t isn’t even worth throwing the wings out here. Who was the best, maybe Quincy Pondexter? They only played <700 minutes together. Davis has almost 1000 minutes next to Alonzo Gee.

This time, Davis scored 34 points on 12-of-25 shooting from the field. This time, he grabbed 26 rebounds, dished out four assists, recorded three blocks, and picked up a steal. Basketball-Reference has no such stat line in NBA history on record. That’s because there are no such players like Davis in the history of basketball.
This time, unlike many others, Davis’ supporting cast stepped up offensively. Elfrid Payton had 25 points. Jrue Holiday put up 20, Julius Randle 21, and E’Twaun Moore scored 16. The difference? Defense, plus New Orleans’ bench scored five points compared to 55 by Brooklyn’s.

Top 5 wing defenders by minutes with Davis @SchwanBSS you’ll love this:
1. Dante Cunningham
2. Aminu
3. Solomon Hill
4. Darius Miller
5. Alonzo Gee

Quick and easy way to show the disconcerting drop-off in the Pelicans defense (effort?) from last year to this season.
2017-18 New Orleans record when scoring 110+ points: 39-8 (83 Win%)
2018-19 New Orleans record when scoring 110+ points: 16-12 (57 Win%)

I want to believe. It just feels different this year than last. I hope they prove me wrong and go on another run.

How did they manage to play decent defense the 2nd half of last year with Rondo/Jrue/Moore/Niko/AD?
lots of factors.
which offenses where they playing?
what was opp FG%? what was opp xFG%? and what does those #s look like now?
how are teams attacking them this year v that time last year?
how much do they miss having an Okafor to anchor the defense when Davis sits v 2s? seriously.
i don't think they should be this bad, but home stretch was likely more fluke than not (see Utah Jazz).

apropos of nothing, except some regret

Lasts nights loss is on the bench unit getting run out of the building.
Diallo can’t defend regularly.
Jah is offense only at this point, but should be playing.
Al should’ve played one of those guys last night though, but I understand his reservations. We don’t have a back up rim protector. Not having Oak is hurting us.
Demps might have fricked up not pulling the trigger on Baze/DD earlier this year.

We played the same bad team twice out of 3 games. All is not well.
