this is a january to april team. we're in almost the same boat we were at this time last year, minus a handful of games. Payton is our x factor and looks like the rust is falling off with each passing game. He pushes the pace and AD to dominate. Niko may be dead but if he's not he'll be back soon to complete the big three rotation.

the season is young baws, and there's plenty of time. did i accidentally take my klonopin with my fish oil and aspirin this am? absolutely, but its january 3rd guys. lets not fully meltdown just yet.

We suck and everyone wants us to trade AD.
It’s over.
Move the team.

Does AD strike you as a guy that will tune out all the chatter and work on winning?

the same team i was watching last year when you clowns were calling for gentry's head in january only to praise him after we made the playoffs and swept portland.

this is so f'n typical of louisiana sports fans.

"its not even the midpoint of the season 4.5 games back from the playoffs. the sky is falling!"

ffs sack up, ladies

As was last night, and plenty of the other Ls this year. It's just increasing frustrating trying to get behind this team knowing that in the end it probably won't matter.

No need to worry about that. 99% of people who watch the Pels are always in "meh, whatever" mode and forget about it in 5 minutes or less. No one seriously cares about this team outside of ~200 fans/writers/bloggers.

AD needs to go 60/25 every night for us to beat lottery teams by single digits. Organization is a fricking dumpster and needs to be purged.

Maybe if the team played any defense, and that includes AD, then they wouldnt have to work so hard to get back into contention just to lose...

That’s on the coaching. They are more concerned about an up tempo game rather than sinking in and playing some defense. It amazes me that we fire Monty who was a defensive, front court oriented type of coach, and hire Gentry who is a back court pace guy. Then we make a trade to acquire the best front court in the league and then have no guards. Dell is a genius.

I disagree. When the team was at full strength and playing well they barely beat Brooklyn at home at the beginning of the season for the same reason they've had trouble with Utah, Miami and very injured Boston teams. These Pels will let themselves get outworked and outsmarted. Well coached and well disciplined teams might be the worst matchup for the Pels. Last year they at least had a leader on the floor in Rondo.

I don't think firing the coach, even if it's much deserved, solves the problem. Look at how reputed defensive guru and hard arse, Thibs in Minnesota, can't get the TWolves to play defense. There is a lack of accountability with the Pels, but inserting a new coach doesn't solve the problem of having a bunch of followers and finishers and not enough leaders and creators.

If they want any hope of saving the AD era they really need to fill the leadership void. It doesn't even have to come from a star player, look at the impact Rondo had. Fat Jared Dudley at SF would probably improve this team a ton.

Pop maybe, I could even make a case for Doc, but there are very few coaches who can walk in and have instant buy in, see Thibs and the defensive shite show in Minnesota. I just don't think the problem is lack of discipline, it's that you need more leadership on the floor. I forget which one but one of the smarter ESPN guys, someone like Arnovitz or Pelton, made a tweet several weeks back talking about how historically teams where the "leaders" lead by example instead of being vocal leaders usually had a leadership void. Memphis had a fight over falling below .500. If Rondo where here and the record were the same, which I don't think it'd be, would the Pels have had a players only meeting by now?

A players only meeting seems a bit overdue considering the biggest failing this season is lack of defense which is largely effort. I was watching the first half last night and kept thinking to myself that Brooklyn is playing the way the Pels want to play, is that the coaching or the hungry players? I just can't see even a smart coach like Atkinson getting that much hustle out of this roster.

the problem with this team is the roster not the attitude. for them to play any defense at all, davis and holiday have to BOTH be on the floor. when either or both sit, they give up points by the bushel

this is not the recipe for a playoff team

to wit:

quote:

Pelicans lineups with Jrue Holiday & Anthony Davis last night:
31 minutes, +24.7 net rating

Lineups with AD & no Jrue:
11 minutes, -44.8 net rating

Lineups with Jrue & no AD:
6 minutes, -61.5 net rating

How did they manage to play decent defense the 2nd half of last year with Rondo/Jrue/Moore/Niko/AD? Niko's ok defensively but I don't think I can say more than that. Was it really all Rondo quarterbacking? If that's the case what available veterans could provide the same?

i did not watch the game last night...at this point i have better things to do. as they say though, ball (and stats) don't lie. i have no idea what the problem is but the issue is staring this team in the face

they are thin, mentally weak and athletically challenged outside of jrue & AD. they only thing that's different this year than last appears to be mental (and rondo)
