I've played a couple times as well. It's a fun system that's been pretty easy to pick up and play

Do you deal with the online community much or just all in person?

I currently run a 5th ed campaign, about 8 months of Real world time (meeting about every 2 weeks for 4 hrs depending on work/life schedules).

All our stuff is in person though we do use the DnD Beyond website to manage our characters and as a quick reference.

We've been playing for about a year and a half online using Fantasy Grounds.

What's your opinion on Fantasy Grounds? Good service? Easy to work?

I had a great 4th edition group. We all really geeked out on mechanics and party synergy with our builds and it was a lot of fun until you got into the higher levels where a combat encounter might take 3 hours due to all the complexity.

Anyway, I haven’t had a chance to get into a 5th edition group yet but I’ve heard good things. I do think I might like my combat a little crunchier than what it encourages though I believe they were going to go with a modular approach to the system where you could add on a crunchier combat mechanics system if you so desired.

A lot of the games I’ve been people play don’t even use maps for combat whereas I’m used to needing a map, terrain and figures from the 4e days.

I've been playing again for a month now after not really playing table-top RPGs for about a decade and not playing actual D&D in almost two decades.

So far so good.

I'm the DM. Everyone in our group thinks it works well. We'd love to play face-to-face, but since we're now all around the country that's difficult to do. We all agree that this is the next best thing and it works well. We even incorporated sounds from Syrinscape to add flavor to the game.

One of the main reasons we like it is that we are all working professionals and have little time to invest in developing material so it is easier for us to drop cash on already built modules to play. If you're looking for an inexpensive virtual table top, this one probably isn't it.

There is an excellent 'college' with a lot of people interested in helping others learn how to use Fantasy Grounds. There are also some excellent YouTube videos out there.

I have the Ultimate license which means anyone can download the demo version and get full access to my stuff. If you're interested in just logging in to see how it works let me know.
