Going to Paris in August. For those that have been are these passes on the internet that give you access to all major museums the way to go? If so which company do you recommend?
I’ve been reading that lines can be a real hassle, do these passes help you bypass the lines?
What about metro passes?

We were in Paris for four days. Went to the Louvre 3 hours before close. No line. For the Eiffel Tower, we had tickets and it was clutch bypassing the line.

Metro is single use. You buy tickets. You can buy in books of 10. Was like 13 euros. Like NYC. Unlimited changes etc. London was like DC metro where you were charged by how far you went.

The official museum pass is only a good deal if you are seriously into museums. I bought the 5-day pass and IIRC, we had to hit 2 a day to get our money’s worth. It is nice to skip the line at busy attractions. There is so much to see and do in Paris—don’t overindulge in interior/indoor experiences.

Also, the buses can be more appealing than the metro....you can sightsee during your trip. Metro in the heat of summer is an exceptionally fragrant experience.....

The museum passes are great. They allow you to walk right in to most museums and many other places without having to buy a ticket or stand in line. There is no need to buy them in advance. Just buy them when you get there. It is easy and you won't pay a needless commission. Go to a museum where the line is not long and buy one at the counter. We got our last one from L'Orangie which was right across the street from our hotel. The clock does not start running until you use it to enter the first attraction.... For the metro passes we bought carnets, 10 tickets sold at a discount. Just buy these at the metro station.

Thanks for the tips, we are planning to see quite a few museums because it’s hard to go to Paris for the first time and not view some of the famous works of art that are on display there.
With that being said we will try to narrow down our list of things to see so we can try to be outside and emmerse ourselves in the Parisian way of life.
I think a museum pass will benefit us and maybe we will purchase it at one of the less crowded museums once we arrive. Buying the bulk bus/ train passes sounds like a plan.
Thanks

I’d echo what the op said. Pick one or two museums to settle the culture/tourist itch and then go walking in Le Marais or 2nd. most fun in Paris is a 3hr liquid lunch outside of the tourist center and cafe hopping. Eiffel is something to behold, but less necessary to take the lift. Go to montmarte for the view or the top of the opposing skyscraper.

Personally I wouldn't bother with a Paris Museum pass unless you want to blaze through as much attractions as possible. I stayed 3 days in Paris and there were so many things to see and do, so little time. I had to skip so many major attractions.(Versailles, chapelle, orsay, montmarte, le marais, etc just to name a few)

Only indoor things we were able to do were Louvre and Opera Garnier. We skipped the line with advance ticket purchase. I don't recommend overplanning and blazing through attractions like they do with tour groups.
