First it was explosives on ferries from Cozumel to Playa del Carmen now and outright warning about Playa del Carmen as a whole.

Sounds like a typical Monday afternoon in Chicago

Don't spread rumors! That's what I got accused of when I posted a Mexico travel warning last year.

I was just planning a trip in June to Playa or Cozumel for my oldest daughter's HS graduation and my youngest's 16th birthday. We're going to FL instead now. Things like this wouldn't bother me if my kiddos weren't along.

Good call it just isn’t worth it.

F Mexico. I will never go back. Plenty of other places to go that are way nicer anyway.

I'll be going to tulum in the near future. Everything I've read is that the crime is mostly contained to the bigger resort areas like Cancun, Cozumel, and Playa del Carmen. To me, it's a lot like being a tourist in the French quarter. No it's not safe, there are decent chances you'll get mugged or even see some gang violence.

I go to Mexico a couple of times a year. If you're going to Cancun I'd suggest that you camp out in the hotel zone. If you're going to Cozumel or Isla Mujeres or Holbox there is no reason that you won't be 100% safe unless you are an idiot and aren't aware of your surroundings or do something really stupid. This is true of travel across most of the world including the US.

Seems like we've heard for years that those were the safe places.

Hopefully I’m safe at EPM, going there in a couple of weeks
