Roofers - How far back can you claim hail damage?

Recently had a patio cover installed and they mentioned that we had hail damage to our roof. How far back can you claim such damage on insurance? I figure it would have to be within a year in which I'd be SOL but I figured I'd ask.

The law in Louisiana is 2 years from the loss date.

what is a good site to see where hail occurred or was reported?

Since it would be impossible to proven when hail damage actually happened this is not really a factor. I just called my insurance company and said I think I see hail damage on my roof, they looked at it and said yep it is. There was no discussion of when it may have happened.

Uh, hail damage usually happens when it hails.

Had wind damage to ours and they needed dates. Maybe it varies by company???

It depends on the carrier, and they might have looked and seen there was hail in the area recently. There are hail maps, with detailed hail size and date reports. I don’t Need the reports so I don’t have a subscription. Most hail can be easily proven and I have seen it denied for being old hail plenty of times.

Why would you ask roofers an insurance question?
