Elections have consequences, on both sides.

The filibuster/cloture vote/60 vote threshold is what the uniparty wants.

It's time to move on.

I don't know why we have it.

On real important issues (treaties, proposed Constitutional amendments, and to remove someone from office) our Constitution provides for 2/3 majority (which would require bipartisan agreement).

Of course I'd prefer going back to the original plan of having the state Legislatures appoint Senators.

It should be hard to pass laws, it should be difficult, time consuming and require consensus. I think that a simple majority would just make our country more susceptable to change, with potentially no stability from election to election. Seems a little too chaotic for my liking.

That's like half the point of the senate...so simple majority does not always prevail. If we're gonna just go to simple majority then lets just have the house and dissolve the senate. Dumb idea either way.

Or just get rid of the filibuster/cloture

filibuster should remain but if they want to filibuster than they must stand and filibuster.

You realize there's a difference to the composition of the Senate and the House, right?

The Senate by it's nature is more obstructionist just by it's make up.

They should allow each Senator to force 1 vote each year whether the Majority Leader wants it or not. That bills cannot even get a vote because one man holds them hostage is ridiculous. That goes for both parties.

Actually, the rule just needs to be changed to require an actual filibuster.

In other words, you want to hold up the chamber, you stand there and talk and talk and talk and see if you can get some colleagues to do it with you.

This bullshite cloture crap is just that.

I agree.

Either do it Mr. Smith style, or they vote.

Bingo.

Filibuster is there to slow down drastic change. It is a great tool for the Republic to breathe after an election. It keeps the whims of the majority in check.

We are not a democracy, we are a Republic. I personally want the government to change in slow fashion.

The filibuster is one of the main reasons our government has grown out of control and become all encompassing

Even laws that prove to be detrimental are hard to overturn

Filibuster should be changed. It should invoke a battle royale of epic proportions. Anything goes, short of outright murder. All of congress will be locked in the chamber, and referees placed on overhead pedastals. The filibuster comtinues until one is left, who determines the fate of the bill. If they are from the introducing party then the bill lives on. If not then it is effectively dropped and would have to be re-introduced.

This would probably help seal the deal on those term limits for congress too.
