Do people really think all of Europe is this idyllic bucolic farm fresh society versus the crass "industrial" system we have here in our country?
No.
Do people really think that straw men are effective arguments?

I didn't mean it as such. I'm sorry.

n the US, you have to refrigerate the eggs if they come via the industrial egg system
It's a product of our military-industrial egg complex.

I have learned so much from this thread, and I'm only on page 2. I have noticed most places I've been to outside of our country didn't refrigerate them, but I didn't quite know why (although I figured it had to do with those eggs being farm fresh).
My question for people with chickens is: how much extra work is it to maintain the coop/care for the chickens? We bought a house with a huge coop in the backyard, but we haven't gotten any chickens yet. I eat eggs almost daily, so I would love to have farm fresh eggs. Worth the hassle? We are also training a puppy dog at the moment, so I'm guessing it wouldn't make sense to get chickens just yet.
TIA!

Eggs that haven't been washed don't need to be refrigerated. There's a coating on eggs that prevents bacteria from getting through the shell. When they're washed the coating is removed.

Raising chickens is pretty easy.
Secure place at night
Food and water
Clean the coop regularly

Western Europeans don't refrigerate eggs and they're healthier than we are.

Alabama Hoyt's thread backfired something serious.

Over/Under on the number of people in this thread that googled "Refrigerating Eggs" and then posted information like they knew it the whole time. I will set it at 7.
