I will need 4 tickets to Orlando in January. Are there any tricks to getting the best pricing? Are certain times better than others to buy tickets? Thanks.

Is it for a holiday period? Best thing to do is setup a flight tracker on Kayak or Google Flights and when the price is something you can live with pull the trigger.

Right now southwest from New Orleans to Orlando is as cheap as I've seen it in 10+ years. Pretty easy to find direct flights for around $200/person.

The cheapest we found on SW was almost $300/person. $90 to go but $200 to return. We can fly out of Lafayette for around $1500 on united. Once you factor gas, parking and possibly a night in a hotel the savings is minimal.
How does this google flights work?

Spirit has Houston to Orlando nonstop for $119 roundtrip, August - November right now. Very cheap. Don't think the New Orleans flight is much more.
ETA: Just checked. MSY to MCO is cheaper than Houston. Spirit has deals for $100 roundtrip New Orleans to Orlando through November. $160ish through January.

What are your dates? I'll take a look
I'd suggest allegiant into SFB if their dates work or frontier or spirit or southwest... You've got a lot of options, it should be around $200 total. Might also be cheaper to book two one-ways

01/27/18-2/2/18. Thanks.
ETA: I live in Lafayette and will be traveling with two small kids so early flights are tough.

We're still a good ways out so the prices may not be all that good for now. Seriously consider two one-ways on different airlines.
The one-way on spirit there on 1/27 leaves at 810am and is $80/person. Timing is not great so i'd go with southwest. $77 for a nonstop leaving at 9:35am or 5:15pm.
On the return on 2/2, theres a nonstop from orlando sanford airport on allegiant for $65/person at 5:15pm, into nola at 6:15pm. Otherwise spirit has a nonstop from MCO at 11:40am gets into nola at 12:15pm for $80/person.
In summary, I'd go ahead and at least book the southwest one-way flights msy-mco now if those work for you. Get the free luggage, timing is pretty good, and $77 for a one-way isnt bad. On the return, if you can get to samford airport the allegiant flight looks good but you'll have to pay for your luggage and seats

Get the Hopper app. Put in your dates and they will text you updates on prices.

Doesn't always work, but I'm going to Denver the end of August and got best rates booking one way trips. United from MSY going for $98 (nonstop) and returning on American (1 stop) to MSY for $111. Bought them yesterday. This is for Labor Day weekend.
