Hey Board,
I'm traveling with a close friend to Lyon this summer and was wondering if anyone on here has any recommendations on short day trips from Lyon?
TIA!

Chalon sur soane and macon to the north. Take a boat. Lyon otherwise sorta boring compared to other french cities. Good food though.

Is 2.5 hours away too far? Eurail app shows a 2.5 hour train ride to Cassis. From there, you can take a boat ride to calanques. Awesome area in the summer.

Hands down - Annecy
It's about 2 hours by bus or train I think. Clearest lake ever. Lots of water sports. Neat little downtown. Spent 3 months there this past summer!

Paris is a 2 hour train ride away. Avignon is nice too. Cannes and the coast are a 4 hour drive or 2 hour train away. Are you only spending the day, or do you have a weekend to work with. If it's a weekend, you could be anywhere in Southern Europe after a 3 hour flight or less.
Don't overlook Lyon though. There are a ton of things to do there, and you might be better off exploring the city than going on a short day trip somewhere close.

Do you like wine? If so you are an easy day trip or overnight away from some of the greatest wine areas of the world, burgundy, rhone valley, champagne, etc...
