im in my mid 30s and growing up in Louisiana I only had French classes.
Now im interested in learning Spanish but I'm wondering the best way to go about doing it without physically being in a spanish speaking country.
Anyone on here ever learned another language? Im talking fluently. If so, where did you start?

I tried, but just didn't have the discipline to follow through...it all sounds good in theory, but unless you are around folks who are speaking Spanish all day every day, it is really just a struggle.

I studied French 4 yrs in HS and 4 yrs at LSU and never learned it very well.
I attended the DLI and in 51 weeks I passed board exams reading 3, writing 3 and speaking 2+ in Russian the end. Which secured me a job at the NSA directly following.
Isolation and submersion in the language is the only proven method to master board level mastery of foreign languages. Except the lower languages like French, Spanish and Hatian Creole.
I mastered "Serbo-Turbo" (as we called it) in a 6 weeks course one I mastered Russian. I've sense been able to pick up Polish and Ukraian on my own based on the previous languages mastered.

Took French, Spanish and Latin. Speak Latin most fluently due to Mass every Sunday. Go figure, dead language, but awesome for etymology. I think being submersed in the language is key.

You speak fluent Latin because of Sunday mass?

Is an international language used in the science community so many scientists pick up on Latin regardless of of they speak another language.

There are a couple of apps that can help get you started. Friend of mine learned from duolingo app but had to supplement it as time went on with native speakers. But he said the daily practice on the app was a good foundation just not enough on its own.

I grew up speaking Redneck, but have picked up enough English to get by almost anywhere in the country.

I studied Russian for the Army in California. I wasn't nearly fluent after a year, but had a working reading, writing and listening knowledge, as well as basic conversational skills.

You need a long-haired dictionary.
